1400cc Bangers and BriSCA F2 Stockcars World of Shale Final

Around 65 cars for the last under 1400cc Banger bash of the year at Mildenhall with visitors from PRI, Trackstar and Spedeworth. Absolutely zero on the material front, the only car of note being the smartly turned out Skoda Favorit of 214 Marcus Ballard.

The night started with a 25 car Novice qualifier with 60 Mark Boden (Cortina Est) landing a T-bone on the spun Lada of 557 Adrian Jones before he got stuffed by fellow Kent driver 7 Dave Armstrong. 557 Stalky bounced back to put the Nova of 778 Tim Podd before Armstrong piled 487 Dave Silley's Belmont into 778. 44 Piers Turner then have Stalky a good shot but took a package himself from 947 Alan Butts (Mk3 Escort Est). 156 Micky Maskall took the chequered with 810 Carl France and 710 Andrew Donnovan next.

23 cars for the second heat which was a tame affair but not for 414 Michael Walms (Cortina Est0 who took hits from 160 Perry Willings (Capri) and 695 Tony Blowers (Volvo 340) at the start . 89 Mick South (Mk3 Escort) then suffered at the hands of both 134 Darren Snare (Fiesta) and Blowers, the latter burial also claiming 249 Matt Frost (Cortina) which allowed 665 Stuart Scarlett (Marina) to pile into Blowers before a recovered 249 Frosty brought the race to an end running in Spedeworth's 49 Paul Beane (Sierra). 543 Luke Townsend scored a fine flag to flag win from 35 Peter Lewis and 214 Mr Ballard.

One less for the final heat but it was much better with 72 Gary Turner in his used Mk1 Capri blasting Turner at the start who turned round to dish out a hit to Butts before 564 Mark Cooper (Marina) gave the former a head-on. Live wire 19 Joe Mullarkey (Capri) ran in 629 Scott Turnball before the ever entertaining 216 Mark Burrows (Lada) took in 72 Stan. Mullarkey treated a spun 417 Dan Davey (Cortina Est) to a head-on before 115 Gary Rose (Cortina Est) was put in by 352 Stu Brooks (Cortina). The luckless Stan then fell foul of Mullarkey who ended a fine showing with a stiff T-bone to 148 Ian Redden's Triumph 1300. 53 Dave Palmer (Cortina) concluded the race by following 816 John Chat (Lada Est) into Stan as 27 Steve McMillan (Astra) taking the win, 22 Dave Vincent (Lada) claiming second following a lap sheet check.

29 starters for the consolation with 39 Steve Moore (Cortina) and Turner going head to head at the start before 237 Jamie Mitchell scored on Frosty. Shorty was again victimised by Mullarkey but he fired back for a hit on 174 Chris Bennett (Mk2 Escort) only to take more stick, this time from Frosty. 352 Mr Bilge treated 652 James Goh (Maestro) to a hit as did 648 Rob Manning (Nova) on Boden before the latter's team mate 860 Alan Oliver took punishment from Walms and Turner. Manning's continued his assault with a hit on Rose as 216 Buzzer gave 766 Barry Lee (Cortina Est) a hard shot and followed it up with a stiff T-bone on 788 Darren Gathercole (Capri) on route to taking the flag from Podd and Scarlett with just six finishing.

The night biggest grid came out for the final with 31 cars a burial from France firing Davey up to follow in the Nova of 76 Terry Mansfield and then blast Palmer before the reds came out for a large fire in the 653 Dave Crocker machine. Palmer started the restart in style turning round to me Mansfield in a hard head-on and then Maskall in an even harder on, the latter getting blasted by 211 Barry Franklin (Capri). 39 Peanut walled Willings as 186 Mick Gedney raced to the flag from 131 Barry Wade (Acclaim) and Silley.

An American Style DD to end with 25 contenders and rookie 233 Darren Barton (Mk2 Cavalier) started in fine style with a huge hit on 788 Darren G who was pounded further by Walms as 158 Shane Davies (Cavalier) scored on Armstrong and Chat and 118 Nigel Overton (Astra) went head to head. 564 Coatie blasted Rose and Mullarkey sorted 766 Barry the Bull and 211 Bazza. Buzzer felt the force of a T-bone from 303 Wayne Linsdall (Volvo 340) and a hit from Stan before Turner dished out a big shot to Goh. Peanut and Armstrong met on the nose with Mullarkey doing the former before Davies and Turner enjoyed a head-on as did Mr Bilge and Buzzer. Vincent dished out a T-bone to Barton as Buzzer again went into head on mode with Walms and Peanut on the other side before the race was suspended for a large fire in Davies' car. With the flames extinguished we got back underway with Vincent attacking Walms on several occasions as Peanut got stuck into Mullarkey and 710 Drew. The latter then assaulted Bazza but was done by Walms with Vincent doing 414 to finish him, the former then destroying Drew with several hard hits to take the honours.

An excellent showing of 59 BriSCA F2 Stockcars assembled at Mildenhall on August 3 for the World of Shale final with three of the 32 qualifiers failing to show allowing in three reserves.

So it left 26 cars for the first heat which was stopped after a couple of laps when 599 Jonathan Lawrence and 379 Stuart Cayzer tangled and got left stranded in the middle of the pits bend. More chaos on the restart as 269 James Slatter and 376 Darren Seneschall tangled and hit the wall as the returning 208 Dave Hemstock led until cruelly spinning coming out of turn four as did the second placed 734 Carl Annison a couple of laps earlier. This promoted 519 Stephen Lawrence but in a thrilling finish 414 Mark Veall gave him a timely nudge on the last bend and slipped up the inside winning by no more than a cigarette paper with 448 John Wright third.

32 qualifiers for the title race with 13 Andy Ford and defending champion 559 Bert Finnikin alongside and it was the latter who grabbed the early lead while 917 Nigel Wiles became the first spinner followed by 905 Rob Mitchell as 291 Craig Tomblin and 597 Barry Clou hit the wal. A luckless 177 Alan Skayman spun twice leaving Finnikin up from with Ford chasing, 977 Dave Massey quickly going third from the sixth row. 71 Nic Hoyes was spun by 885 Dave Tomlinson but it also slowed the latter as 228 Simon Ricketts leapfrogged Massey for third. A three car pile up claimed 744 Tom Smart, Rob Mitchell and 188 Simon Panton before 833 Rob Kaye and 70 Brian Shadbolt also tasted the wall. A big pile up then formed on the road way bend claiming Finnikin who suffered a puncture and retired with Ford taking over. Massey briefly held second before also crashing out and as Ford raced to the title, 290 James Waterfall brilliantly held of 48 Garry Fox for the second place spot.

34 cars for the consolation with 956 Len Perkins leading the opening laps before looking the spot to 366 Mick Kemp as a spun Ricketts was whacked by Tomblin. 368 Steve Caton then took up the running but disappeared right at the end and Cayzer came through for the win from Massey and Panton.

27 of the 28 qualifiers returned for the Grand Final with Stephen Lawrence the early pace setter before loosing the spot to Kemp who survived getting tangled with 413 Lee Veall to hold onto the spot as Lawrence spun. Shadbolt then took over but he was overpowered by Rob Mitchell who went on for the spoils followed by brother 219 Chris and Kaye.

25 cars for the concluding Grand National led all the way by Wiles who was helped towards the end when the second placed 252 Rick Irving spun and held up the chasing pack. Wiles won it from Chris Mitchell and Shadbolt.
