General Meeting Information

Meeting introduction
We are now counting down the weeks and the days until what is set to be one of the biggest nights of the season at RDC Promotions and Mildenhall Stadium as RDC Promotions presents Goldrush on Saturday, August 23 headlined by the BriSCA F2 Stockcar World Championship Semi Finals.

Since the first weekend of March the stars of the BriSCA F2 Stockcars have been battling up and down the country, fighting to get to this stage of the 2014 World Championship series and now just one hurdle stands between them and a chance of winning the sports biggest prize at Cowdenbeath Raceway in Scotland in September.

However this hurdle is likely to be the biggest and toughest they have yet to face this season as for only the second time in its current format the World Championship Semi Final double header comes to the unique, small but still fast, tricky and unforgiving Suffolk shaleway that is Mildenhall Stadium.

We are now down to less than 70 hopefuls for the World Championship and 56 of them will contest of the semi final races and will each face heartbreak of jubilation depending on how those 20 laps of racing fare for them. For the top 10 they will win a ticket to the biggest race of the season, for the others they will face the prospect of regrouping and trying to re-establish their World Championship hopes via the consolation semi final race at Cowdenbeath prior to the World Final.

The BriSCA F2 Stockcars have been producing some of their best racing in recent times at Mildenhall in the last couple of seasons and with a full programme of open wheeled stockcar action and with so much at stake this promises to be an event no stockcar fan will want to miss.

And there is much more besides the BriSCA F2 Stockcar World Championship Semi Finals on August 23 as the meeting plays host to the unique National Banger Inter Counties Team Challenge. For one night only, friendships are forgotten, loyalties are lost and rivalries are relinquished as teams from Essex, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, the Shires and Norfolk try to defeat defending champions Kent.

Finally we have a small piece of history as the V8 Hotstox return to Mildenhall Stadium for the first time since July 23 1989. The formula is celebrating its 30th anniversary season and as such are trying to revisit every track the formula has previously raced at and we are delighted to offer this long running formula this opportunity at Mildenhall and we are confident they will make the most of it, especially with the meeting being a World Championship qualifying round.

Introduction

World Championship Semi One Preview
For the first Semi-Final at least the front row looks a little more certain, at time of writing at least. 886 Chris Bradbury starts on pole having topped the qualifying chart and subsequently makes his ninth semi-final appearance and will look to turn that into an eighth World Final start and based on his electric form on August 9 where he left his rivals with the memory of his flawless Grand National win, who would bet against him in his latest quest to get that elusive maiden World title as well as claiming his third World Semi-Final victory. Joining him on the front row is 401 Barry Goldin, also no stranger to the semi-finals, this being his 19th semi start and he’s been in World Final no less than 16 times and won the coveted title in 2003. He has also enjoyed much success in the semi finals with an incredible seven wins to his name and despite a lack of recent Mildenhall appearances he still starts as a leading contender. What he lacks in Mildenhall form is more than replaced in shale form with 331 of his 519 National points (ahead of the August 9/10 weekend) coming on shale. Row two sees the first of the more tarmac based racers with 676 Neil Hooper who makes his 16th semi appearance and will look to make the World Final for the eleventh time. He doesn’t have a single shale point to his name in 2014 which is cause for concern but with four race wins this season and just two nil scores from 24 meetings this no denying his talent behind the wheel and he should not be overlooked. Joining him on row two is a man with no lack of Mildenhall and shale experience. 823 Sam Wagner has three wins to his name at Mildenhall in 2014 as he prepares for his fifth semi final start and he’ll hope for a fifth World Final appearance to boot but he will also look to improve on his best semi-final finish to date which is a second in 2013 and, providing his survives the first bend, who would bet against him.

Row three starts with 921 Jack Aldridge who has become something of a Mildenhall regular in recent weeks racing at each of the last four meetings but has only mustered 15 points from those meetings and is clearly still searching for top form here but those meetings will surely prove immensely useful in his quest to retain his run of turning semi-final starts into World Final starts by making it four from four here. Alongside is 597 Barry Clow who will relish the opportunity of a semi final on familiar turf as he tries to qualify for the World Final for the first time after two previously failed attempts. He has a 100 per cent attendance record at Mildenhall in 2014 but his form has not been the best with no wins or final top threes and he is currently outside the top 20 in points but he only needs things to click for one race and he is more than capable of that happening. Row four presents the unfamiliar name at Mildenhall at least of 578 Mark Gibbs who is one of a number of drivers set to make his debut at the raceway and it will be interesting to see how much of a factor track experience is on drivers such as Mark. This is his fifth semi-final start and he is looking for a third World Final appearance having taking the qualifying series most seriously with seven rounds under his belt including a near full score at St Day. Joining him is English Open Champion 101 Kelvyn Whalley, known in 2014 as a largely tarmac racer but he qualified for the World Final in the 2005 semis at Mildenhall and will look to do so again, for the eighth time, here and maintain a 100 per cent success record of semi starts converting to World Final starts. Shale form is not an issue for 995 Michael Lund on row five with all his 325 National points in 2014 coming on shale including a win at Mildenhall in April and second in the final here in March giving him perhaps his best chance of making his World Final debut in what will be his third World Semi Final start.

Joining him on row five will be leading Scottish ace 647 Chris Burgoyne, another who was successful in qualifying in the 2005 semi finals at Mildenhall but with no visits to the raceway in 2014 and no shale points to his name this season it remains to be seen if he recalls his way round. This will be his 13th semi-final appearance and there will be few who will want to be a part of the Cowdenbeath World Final (the site of his 2002 victory) more than him. 488 Liam Bentham is another who spends much of his racing on tarmac in 2014 and as such we have not seen him at Mildenhall this season but with around a third of his near 300 National Points coming at shale meetings it’s a clear reminder, if needed, that he should not be overlooked. This will be his fifth semi-final appearance but he is still chasing a debut World Final appearance and that aforementioned shale experience could make all the difference. Shale and Mildenhall form is certainly not a question when it comes to 2011 World Champion 871 Mark Simpson who completes row six of the grid. Despite missing the last two meetings at Mildenhall he remains sixth in the points and having had his best results at his most recent meetings which included a second in the final, he will start as one of the leading contenders as he chases a second semi final win and his 15th World Final start in his 19th semi-final appearance. Row seven is an interesting one with a pair of brothers-in-law which could make for an eyebrow raising start.

100 George MacMillan is set to start on row seven and potentially in brother in law Dave Polley’s shale car which will surely help him overcome a lack of shale and track experience which is likely to be a factor. This is his eighth semi-final appearance and he is looking for a fifth World Final start but with the big race on home soil at the Raceway this year is surely means more than ever. Has at least raced on shale this year with three shale points to his name but it remains to be seen how much that helps here but with an impressive 16.74 point average from nearly 20 meetings including two final wins and just one nil score there is no denying his pedigree. 48 Ryan Morgan is another unfamiliar name on the shale raceways and this will be his Mildenhall debut and he could perhaps face a tough task to make the World Final for the first time in his semi-final debut so certainly a big night of firsts for Ryan! However what he lacks in shale form he makes up for elsewhere with only three nil scores this year from nearly 20 meetings and a pair of heat wins so there is again no questions over his talent. Joining him on row eight is a driver who until earlier month was an unknown force at Mildenhall in the shape of 452 Mark Armitage. It was a concentrated effort by Mark to qualify as most of his meetings this year were world qualifiers and having qualified he visited Mildenhall for the first time on August 9 to get some track time with his best result an eighth in one of the heats. However he did look on the pace and the visit is likely to be a big help and he should not be overlooked as he looks for a maiden World Final start in his second semi-final. Onto row nine and another pair of standout shale racers. Starting on the inside is former multiple World of Shale and Mildenhall Champion 606 Andy Palmer who makes his 11th semi final start and will look to move into the World Final for the eighth time. His best semi result is a third in both 2007 and 2011 and it would be no great surprise to see him better than here, especially given how unpredictable this races can be. However Mildenhall form is very patchy with just 26 points from four meetings in 2014 including a win on July 26.

Joining him on row nine is leading shale ace 377 Daz Shaw who topped the World of Shale qualifying points in 2014 but his Mildenhall form is not quite as strong as other shale circuits and he is currently 13th...could this prove a bad omen for the April heat winner as he looks to turn a fifth semi final start into a second World Final appearance and maybe even better his second place finish in the 2007 semi. We’ve not seen 362 Dave Harley at Mildenhall this season but he has been a shale regular, all but one of his national points in 2014 coming on shale including a final win in the world qualifier at the season opener at Lynn is a timely reminder of his chances of making the World Final for a second time from his third semi final. 169 Richard Stott completes row 10 and is another to make his Mildenhall debut and another with no shale points to his credit in 2014 but with seven wins including a final he certainly has the ability to get it done here as he chases a second world final start from his fourth appearance in a semi-final. West country young gun 954 Jamie Beere has worked hard to make his semi-final debut this year, attending seven rounds, his best at Cowdenbeath which bodes well should be qualify. Has raced at Mildenhall three times this year with three points to his name from those meetings but will hope the laps completed gives him an edge over his rivals. It’s an edge that someone like 560 Luke Wrench will start without as he makes his World Semi-Final debut without completing a single lap of the Suffolk shale and none of his 226 National points at time of writing have come from shale meetings so he certainly has a mini mountain to climb in his quest to convert his semi final debut into a World Final debut for a remarkable 2014. However with four race wins from his 28 meetings this season he is another who clearly knows what it takes to win.

Making it to the top 10 from row 12 is likely to prove a very difficult task but young gun 124 Ollie Skeels will certainly be up for the task and with something of a nothing to lose attitude to the race he’ll be giving it everything and as he commented in his pre meeting interview on the RDC website that he can only really go forward and he will be especially determined as he looks to make it three World Final starts from his fourth semi final appearance. The August 9 meeting was the first he missed at Mildenhall in 2014 where his form has been patchy with 46 points from six meetings and no wins to his name but again it only needs to click for one race. The importance of a World Final at Cowdenbeath will be lost on none of the Scottish contenders although 854 Robbie Dawson has a great amount to do to qualify for his sixth World Final in his eighth semi-final race. Another to make his track debut and another with no shale points from his impressive 750 plus National points haul in 2014 but with an average score of 29.36 and with 12 wins to his name this season how can you not consider him a contender. Our stat box shows this is the second time 187 Peter McCallum has contested a semi-final but assures us he has competed in more earlier in his career but he is still chasing a first outing in a World Final and from this far down the grid and coupled with a lack of shale and Mildenhall form it is certainly not going to be an easy task but he has scored a handful of points on shale this year which could make all the difference. Young gun 542 Steven Gilbert makes his semi-final debut but is another where a lack of shale and track experience will make him a dark horse at best but with seven race wins he certainly is capable. The same can be said about 59 Lee Dimmick who is looking for a second World Final appearance and while shale form is limited at best he has secured three race wins this season. 994 Paul Hopkins completes the grid for his semi-final debut and certainly does not lack shale and track form with a 100 per cent attendance at Mildenhall in 2014 but form has been difficult with just 31 points but again he has nothing to lose. And the same can be said for 259 Simon Farrington who is provisionally scheduled for his eighth semi final in semi final two as the third reserve. He was the final winner at Mildenhall in May and when everything clicks he is as quick as anyone and coming from the back of the grid with a third World Final start as the prize he’ll give it everything he’s got.

*=reserve place in that particular semi final is provisional and should there be further short fall in semi final one the driver could be switched to semi final one instead

World Championship Semi Two Preview
The second Semi Final grid is the one with all the question marks, in particular over National Points and 2006 World Champion 7 Gordon Moodie who is, at time of writing suspended from racing. It remains to be seen if he does appeal the decision and whether this happens before August 23 and if it then allows him to take his place in pole position. He visited Mildenhall for the July weekend to underline how serious the World Final campaign is to him but clearly struggled with his first nil score of the season on the Saturday and only a small score on the Sunday so should he be on the grid there are certainly no guarantees. Regardless of the outcome with Moodie, west country young gun 979 Paul Moss will start on the front row. A richly deserved reward having attended all 18 qualifying rounds this season and a top 10 finish would be richly deserved as well. But it will not come easy as shown by his three Mildenhall visits so far in 2014 which have produced just a single point but he will hope the track time makes a difference as he looks for a World Final debut from his second semi final start. The second row, provisionally at least, features more west country flavour starting with 476 Ryan Wadling who makes his second semi final appearance and will look to make the big race for the second time as well. Visited Mildenhall in July for One Wild Weekend but went home pointless which is far from an ideal start but he has shown solid form his season with a 10.62 average from 21 meetings (prior to August 9) with two wins as well. Similar can be said of 126 Jamie Avery who has raced at Mildenhall three times in 2014 but does not have a track championship point to his name which is cause for concern as he looks for a second World Final start from his fourth Semi Final appearance. Another who has been solid all season with a 7.92 average from 24 meetings and likely to happy enough with any top 10 finish.

Depending on the fate of Moodie the first Scottish driver could be Ministox graduate 641 Dennis Middler who is set to start on row three. He also made the trip to Suffolk for One Wild Weekend and went home pointless but surely the track time will make a difference here and with a 13.15 average from 26 meetings combined with a burning desire to be in a World Final on home soil he’ll throw everything at qualifying for the big race for the second time from his seventh World Final. Shale and Mildenhall experience is not a question for 788 Stephen Mallinson who despite only attending four of the seven meetings at West Row so far in 2014 is an impressive fourth in the standings with one of the best average scores at Mildenhall this season giving him a great chance of qualifying for the World Final for the first time from only his second Semi Final. Despite not having a race win at Mildenhall this year he has been in the top three in a final three times and he will start as a leading contender. Reverting back to the tarmac specialists and 522 Chris Mikulla is set to start on row four and is another to have enjoyed decent success in these events with two previous World Final appearances from his five semi final starts to date. He is another driver here that has not scored a single point on shale in 2014 but with an impressive 16.15 average from 20 meetings there is no denying his form in the sport and he should certainly not be overlooked. Set to start on the fourth row as well is current Mildenhall Track Championship leader 103 Carl Issit who is another leading contender here who could give the World Final grid an interesting look. This will be his 16th World Semi appearance and he has been in the World Final no less than 13 times and who would be against him not only making it 14 in 2014 but also beating his previous best semi finish of a third in 2006 with two race wins at Mildenhall to his name in 2014 including the final on July 26.

Moving onto the fifth row and we start with the man many are talking about. Regardless of your thoughts of what happened at Taunton on August 3 the bottom line is 218 Rob Speak is set to compete in his 18th semi final appearance as he looks to race in the World Final for the 17th time. No stranger to semi final success with an incredible 10 wins, including six in a row between 1994 and 1999 as well as his eight World Championships. Of course the presence or non presence of Moodie could be a big factor but either way he’ll be a watched man. 725 Paul Broatch is another who is no stranger to semi finals, this his 23rd appearance in one and he is looking for a 15th trip to the World Final. Visited Mildenhall in July and after struggling on Saturday, improved on Sunday with a handful of points which make up around half his shale points in 2014. A very experienced racer more than capable of making an impact here. Row six is set to start with 448 John Wright, another of the shale based racers looking to make the most of a shale semi-final to get into the World Final for the first time after four previously unsuccessful semi final starts. Started the season at Mildenhall in top form winning the final in March but has not matched it since but clearly has the form needed to get that important top 10. 2009 and 2012 World Champion 968 Micky Brennan looks likely to start on row six and this will be his first Mildenhall appearance in some time but he has been here before and has always been competitive and will look to be the same again as he looks for a seventh World Final start from his eighth semi final. The opportunity a shale semi-final offers many shale drivers is not lost on many drivers and one of those will be 19 Martin Ford who is still looking to make his World Final debut after four previously unsuccessful semi final appearances. And this could be his best chance with a decent grid position, likely to either make or break his chances, and with some strong Mildenhall form in 2014 with four race wins which sees him head into the semi final tenth in the track championship standings.

In complete contrast 700 Adam Rubery heads into his fifth semi final very much out of his comfort zone but we understand he will loan Mark Sargent’s shale car to help boost his chances of making it to the biggest race of the season for the second time. Another driver who compensates for a lack of shale form with strong 2014 form with a 16.35 average from 17 meetings and six race wins. Row eight has some more familiar faces for Mildenhall fans starting with 136 Kyle Taylor who makes his World Semi Final debut this year and would love nothing more than to convert that into a debut appearance in the World Final and he certainly has the ability to do that although he has really struggled at times at Mildenhall this year with just 35 points from five meetings, but his best meeting was last time out so maybe the form has come at the right time. Likewise 219 Chris Mitchell is looking to qualify for the World Final for the first time but this will be his fifth time in a semi final but by his own admission this will be his best chance yet and he’ll look to make the very most of it. However Mildenhall form has also been patchy for Chris with 34 points from five meetings in 2014 but perhaps that just underlines the unpredictability of the raceway and that will something he is familiar with. 618 Ben Lockwood made his Mildenhall debut on the second day of One Wild Weekend with a car from the Brigg family and like so many others racing at the track for the first time that weekend failed to score a point but he too will hope the laps completed will boost his chances of making the World Final for the first time after one previously unsuccessful semi final appearance. One of the most dedicated drivers this season with over 30 meetings already in 2014 so would be richly deserving of a World Final debut. Looking to start on row nine will be 49 Paul Prest who made a handful of Mildenhall visits last year but we’ve yet to see him in 2014 although we doubt he’s forgotten his way round. This will be his second semi final start and he is another chasing a World Final debut and is likely to either achieve it or crash and burn based on his previous outings at Mildenhall.

Into the final third of the grid and the next of our Scottish contenders is 16 Craig Wallace who has a 100 per cent success rate of converting semi final starts to World Final appearances as he makes his second semi final start. A lack of shale and track experience is going to make this hard but a burning desire to be in the big race on home turf will be a great motivator and with an 18.69 average from 36 meetings he is clearly on form. 722 John Broatch made his Mildenhall track debut during One Wild Weekend and picked up a handful of points to give himself a confidence boost heading into his semi final debut. Another with strong form on tarmac this year with an 11.83 average from 35 meetings including six race wins to show there is great talent behind the wheel. Arguably lost a little in the shuffle caused by Paul Moss’ incredible travelling exploits, fell west country man 290 Jay Tomkins deserves much credit for his efforts in 2014 with numerous shale appearances despite his based in Roche. But this trips to Suffolk have not been overly fruitful with just one point from three meetings which could be a cause for concern but the track time is sure to give him some advantage over those with no track and limited shale experience and that could be sufficient to get him into the top 10 as he looks to earn a World Final debut from his second semi final. With the semis drawing closer we’ve seen more of young gun 846 Ashley England than we’ve ever seen with four meetings but with just 10 points to his credit it is clear he is still yet to find top form at the Suffolk shaleway and it could be now or never as he makes his semi final debut but with a 10.40 average from 20 meetings and two wins he’s certainly got the talent.

615 Josh Coleman is no stranger to getting the job done at Mildenhall from near the back of the grid after producing a storming drive in the World of Shale Championship last September to finish in the trophy spots after qualifying in the last chance race. He will need to produce something similar here as he looks to start on row 12 of the grid but there is no denying he is more than capable of making it into the all important top 10 for the first time after three previously unsuccessful semi final appearances. However he will be eager to see the gremlins he had earlier this month get out of his system after a difficult time. 299 Steve Smith is another to recently make his track debut at Mildenhall doing so at the August 9 meeting where he endured a difficult night in unfamiliar surroundings and went home without a top 10 finish to his name but at least he gained a bag of track time which he will look to put to good use here. Whether it will be enough for a maiden World Final start from his second semi final remains to be seen. Semi final debutante 887 Neil Brigg has no such issues with knowledge of Mildenhall but he too has struggled here this year with just seven points from three meetings to underline just how tricky the raceway can be, even for those who know the circuit well. 298 Jake Walker is another to make his semi final debut and will also call upon every ounce of his track knowledge to scale the grid and 39 points at Mildenhall from six meetings including a big 20 point haul in April shows he is capable. Joining the grid, provisionally at least is 297 Paul Bailey, another to make his semi-final debut and a combination of starting at the back of the grid and a lack of shale experience will make him an outsider at best but from the back of the field he has little to lose and from there he could have a chance to adapt to his surroundings quicker and if the race is a hectic one he might be able to work up the order. Also provisionally scheduled for the second semi final is 417 Allan Weston, another to make his semi final debut and certainly thrilled at the prospect as seven days after making his World of Shale debut this will be a most memorable month for the underrated shale racer who has become a regular supporter at Mildenhall in the last 13 months. Will need every ounce of track experience he has to get into the top 10 but don't count him out and will certainly enjoy the occasion to its fullist.

Mini Mossy's Monster Tour 2014
One of the biggest stories of the World Championship qualifying series has been the incredible effort of Cornish based west county young gun 979 Paul Moss who was successful in his quest to race at every single one of the 18 rounds. As well as his driver interview, his father Jeremy kindly wrote this piece detailing their epic journey around the country between March 1 and July 24 which we hope you will enjoy.

I think it was a wet day in November 2013 when I had this crazy idea to see if it was possible to get to every qualifying round in 2014 – you could in 2013 ! So a wait then until the Autosport Show for the fixture list and a planning meeting at Mossy HQ on the following Monday!

Sometimes the fixture planning doesn’t appear to have any planning !!!!!!! (but that’s another story ) however Kings Lynn on 1st March was the opening target. PJ, like me, had never raced on the shale – brother Dan had on his UK Tour in 2012, so off we go.................

Surviving the meeting was our aim and he did ............. 1 QR down.

Skegness was running on the Sunday and so to the east coast we go. A good hand of points meant the season was up and running.

Birmingham and Hednesford were next up on the QR tour – A pre-planned holiday with “er indoors” meant I was absent – step up reserve driver Dan ! A WIN – yes a WIN in the consolation, his first in F2, at Birmingham was reported to us in Lanzerote as we were dining – nearly choked so had to have a few more cocktails to celebrate :-) ............ 3 QR’s down.

Bristol was next on a manic Easter weekend. Having been to Northampton on Good Friday afternoon and Skegness in the evening and winning a tyre, then to Cowdenbeath on Saturday, disaster hit at Mendips on the Sunday after the green flag when the engine and its oil fell out and the latter evacuated the scene. An engine change and then out for the Grand National ........ 4 QR’s down

It’s no secret that I love Scotland and having been to Cowdenbeath the previous Saturday it seemed logical to call in en route to Crimond for round 5. Once again, the gremlins came with us ! and 4 DNF’s at Cowdenbeath with engine issues, our spare engine no less ! despite the best efforts of our Scottish Sponsor, Keith Brown, left us feeling very low. Step up Dennis Midler (F2 - 641)and team with the loan of an engine ! An early start from our Dunfermline base to Crimond (it’s a 3 hour trip !) to meet Wullie Drager (F2 – 102)and Pete McCallum (F2 – 187) with said engine, changed it and out for practice at the most northern UK track. Some-one called Gordon beat PJ in three of the races but did let him win the Grand National ! much to a very emotional Dad but 25 valuable QR points ......... 5 QR’s down

So then came a dilemma ............ a St Day domestic meeting (45 minutes from home) or Northampton ? The latter was always going to win with a night out in Cheltenham to celebrate the joint 60th birthday celebrations of fellow TART members, Graham & Ann Harding, the weekend was sorted, a few points gained........... 6 QR’s down

Up next was another long run from our home in Fowey, Cornwall to Mildenhall, the home of the semi’s and Arena Essex on the way home. PJ’s second run on shale and although nothing to show for it in terms of points, more experience was gained. Then, on Sunday, down the hill via the road to hell, the M25, for more points ............... 8 QR’s down

And then to Stoke, complete with “er indoors” for a lovely afternoon in the sunshine trying to guess what the commentator was saying ( another track with an awful PA system !) more shale laps, more experience ........... 9QR’s down

Then came rounds 10 and 11, another double header Cowdenbeath, for the 3rd visit of the season, and Sheffield. Occasionally work gets in the way and with me confined to barracks, Dan enlisted the help of friend and fellow TART member, Andy Maidment as navigator / mechanic for the trip to our Dunfermline “hotel”, and a massive thank you to Keith & Sharon, our hosts on many occasions !! Crashing out in the final leaves PJ a bit battered & bruised and back on the trailer :-( On the way now to the “steel” city via an “open 7 days a week” cafe, recommended by a member of team Bingley, which apparently doesn’t open on Sundays !!!!!!!!!!!!! More shale, more experience ........... 11 QR’s down

Well June brings blue paint for the roof (Oh Dear !) It also brings 3 QR in 4 days !!

To Coventry we go for more mud and find fellow West Countryman Neil Hooper (F2 - 676)”having a go” in the steed that he has hired for the semi’s. Neil’s biggest fear, he confessed, was that he and PJ would end up in a big heap for the crashtastic section of the Unloaded Magazine to reproduce ! It didn’t happen but we can now see progress in PJ on the shale and the speed is coming ............ 12 QR’s down
A late night followed by some early morning paid work finds us at St Day, just 45 minutes from home !! A 9th in his heat from blue is our only reward but the car survives and drives onto the trailer, which sometimes is an achievement in itself :-) ....... 13 QR’s down

Midweek meetings are always hectic to get to, leaving work at 4pm for the dash to Taunton means we missed paid practice and throttle cable issues mean we miss the final . Ah well, never mind ................. 14 QR’s down

I’ve yet to find where the gremlins hide in the van but they appeared again at Bellevue, a lack of oil pressure after 5 laps in the heat means a return to Cornwall with only attendance points to show for a 600 mile round trip ............. 15 QR’s down

Another double header for the first weekend in July sees us at Buxton on the Saturday and Barford on the Sunday. Buxton was busy and although PJ went well, lady luck was lunching with the gremlins and not concentrating on helping us get points ! At Barford niggly problems keep me busy, the racing is fast with lots of red tops in attendance and collecting points was always going to be difficult ......... 17 QR’s down

So to round 18 at Skegness, PJ was only here 2 weeks ago for Speed Weekend having had issues with our trusty Iveco en route, the gremlins deciding to pick on that instead ! we had high hopes of some success. I’ve never quite worked out how you finish one meeting with nothing mechanically wrong and yet by the time you get to the next, 4 days later, all hell breaks loose ! No practice, thankfully, as it turns out means Heat 1 is our first appearance on track and a cue for the oil in the engine to escape! A big plume of “wacky racers” style smoke leaves PJ in the middle having achieved 1 lap. We try a quick fix for heat 2, send him out and the same happens again. Skegness done ! ......... 18 QR’s down

All 18 rounds done !!

11500 miles on the Iveco !!!

To achieve what we have done requires a huge team effort and a lot of support along the way! So MEGA thanks must go to :-)
Dan Moss (F2 – 797) for driving when I couldn’t, curing some of the gremlins and all his other help with the stockcar and the van.
Keith Brown & Sharon in Scotland for their support in various guises including car repairs and hospitality at “Browns Hotel”
Andy Maidment for his support on the trip I couldn’t do
Graham & Ann Harding for the loan of the “blue rocket” when our trusty van had a bit of a stroke and so to get the boys to Skegness
Paul & Sandra Butcher for hospitality at “Michaelwood hotel”
Tart Motorsport for all their support and help as always
Mike Priddle (F2 – 14) for assistance with engines
Dennis Midler (F2-641) and his team for the engine loan, and Wullie Drager (F2 – 102) & Pete McCallum (F2- 187) for the transport of said engine....... Sorry you couldn’t catch him at Crimond Dennis !!!!

And lastly, but by no means least, PJ’s Mum and my better half, Ally, who has had to put up with nothing but where, why, when since January when we first lined up this crazy idea and many evenings and weekends on her own and when we have been around, much stress, panic and tension in getting the cars prepared and ready to go

Why did we do it ??

Simple ...... no-one else has attended all the QR’s in one season which makes PJ the first !!!!!!!!!!

Mini Mossy’s Monster Tour continues....................................................................

Support Heat entry and preview
Concluding the BriSCA F2 Stockcar programme will be a single support heat featuring up to 30 cars.

As detailed previously this race will feature all the reserves who do not get to contest a semi final race with the rest of the grid filled by regulars at Mildenhall Stadium this season.

We have now offered a booking to all drivers who have visited Mildenhall to race at least three times these season (please note One Wild Weekend counted as one visit) and have now included a small number of drivers who have visited twice who had requested a booking if one was available and we have a small number of places still available so if anyone would like to race this weekend should a place become available they are welcome to contact us and register their interest. Ideally we would recommend you do this via e mail at wastedmc@btopenworld.com but if this is not an option please call RDC on 01268 412299 or 07850 683953.

Below is the full list of drivers for the support heat including the semi finalist reserves who are still on the reserve list, they are highlighted with a *. This list was updated on August 20.

The BriSCA F2 Stockcar action on August 23 extends beyond the two World Championship Semi-Final races with a full programme of action from the open wheeled stockcars of which the two semi-finals are essentially two of the three qualifying heats.

This will leave us with hopefully a full grid for the supporting heat race which will come in between the two semi-final races as heat two and while this race will feature a handful of semi-final reserves whose primary objective from the meeting will be simply their attendance which guarantees them a place in the consolation semi-final at Cowdenbeath next month the majority of drivers in action will be Mildenhall regulars who have earned their bookings through their attendance this season and they will be fighting it out in the penultimate round of the track championship.

For these drivers not in a semi-final race their main target of the evening will be the Grand Final which is sponsored by Randall Motorsport to produce an increased prize fund and with this race set to feature up to 20 confirmed World finalists it is likely to be a star studded affair and a race any Mildenhall regular will not only wish to compete in but also do well in as they show their skill against some of the finest in the sport who will be competing for the World Championship in a few weeks time.

Several of the leading contenders in the Mildenhall track championship will be competing in one of the two World Championship Semi Final races but one front runner who won’t be is 380 Steve Cayzer who heads into the meeting 14 points behind 103 Carl Issit in the track championship and with just one meeting remaining in the Mildenhall championship after this meeting the importance of scoring heavily here will not be lost on Cayzer who knows he needs to make the most of the meeting if he is to challenge for the title after having to settle for second place in 2013.

Also set to race in the support heat tonight is 145 Graham Mole, the only other driver in the current Mildenhall top 10 expected in action in this race and e already has two race wins to his credit at Mildenhall in 2014 and would love nothing more than to make it a hat trick here.

Currently just outside of the top 10 at Mildenhall is 376 Darren Seneschall who secured pole position in the annual white and yellow grade series final here on September 27 at the last meeting. Seneschall has entered some of the most determined and entertaining drives this season at the raceway and has regularly held his own against the more star names in some highly exciting finals and should he qualify for the Grand Final he would be one to watch.

Former World of Shale Champion 702 Allan Cooper will be another to watch for in the support heat and if he qualifies for the final and 842 Ben Kerry who had his best meeting to date last time out

National Bangers Inter Counties Team Challenge

Introduction and meeting format details
Friendships Forgotten...Rivalries Relinquished...Loyalties Lost

The annual battle of territorial warfare in the National Bangers returns on Saturday, August 23 with the annual eight-a-side Inter Counties team challenge, this unique team event pitting typical friends and team mates against each other and seeing common enemies form temporary truces in their quest to take the spoils as teams from Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and the Shires try and take the crown from defending champions Kent.

This year’s Inter Counties team challenge will be run to a new format.

This will see the six eight-a-side teams drawn into one of two heats, each heat fielding three teams where the winning team will advance to the final. Points will be scored 10,6,4,3,2,1 for the first six cars (please note in a case of a tie the team with highest finisher will win)

The four remaining teams will then meeting in the consolation with two teams advancing to the winner take all final. Please note the points will be reset to zero for both the consolation and the final.

We firmly believe the Inter Counties team challenge is one of the most underrated National Banger meetings of our season but one of the biggest issues has been with the meeting format and we hope this new format will not only make it easier for all to follow and understand but will also lead to an even more action packed affair.

Team by Team Preview
Defending the titles in 2014 are the Kent team who last year became the first team to win the event twice after the most dramatic of finishes when Norfolk’s 328 Dan Lathan was stopped on the last bend which allowed Suffolk’s 8 Dale Woolnough to snatch the win and this was sufficient for Norfolk to fall short of piping Kent at the post. Current RDC National Points Champion leader 188 John Reeves once again captains the Kent team for the fifth year and has assembled another strong side. Former Hot Shots Champion 402 Albie Jenner, the hugely underrated 502 Kayligh Dighton, the always rapid 571 George Goodall and 592 Mark Marchant, who has impressed several times this season return from last year and 123 Tony and 623 Ricky Hutton join them for their Inter Counties debut and based on their strong form this year (123 Curly won numerous races during the course of Dirty Weekend at Mildenhall in June) they stand to be fine additions to the most successful county in this event thus far as should 741 Charlie Daniels who has a habit of being well involved at team meetings. And the new format is unlikely to phase them given the success the Dover Boys, again captained by 188 Victor, has had in the Old Skool team championship, which has some similarities to the new Inter Counties format.

Having come so close last year Norfolk remain without an Inter Counties victory and surely last year will make them even more hungry to finally win it. Supreme Champion 328 Dan Lathan again captains the team but his current suspension means he’ll have to watch his troops from the side lines but he has again assembled a strong looking side with the first confirmed members including Accumulator Champion 673 Darren Fendley, TPL trio 620 Guy Whithead, 802 Harry Bird and 888 Shane Emmerson, who have been among the leading entertainers at Mildenhall this year and Predator 176 Ady Gibbs will certainly add some fire power to the team while recent returnee 465 Andy Scarlett only adds to the strength of this side as does the very underrated 262 Chris Waters.

Cambs are the most recent winners of the event besides Kent having won in 2012 but last year saw RDC young gun 327 Mick Maskall Jnr captain the team for the first time and it was not an easy introduction as they were short of a fall team on the night and struggled accordingly. However this year looks likely to be different as Cambs was one of the first to confirm a full team and again it’s a useful looking one. 327 Little Legs is continuing to develop into one of RDC’s most promising drivers for the future and the same can be said for 511 Jack Licquorice at TSR. It promises to be a big night for his family as young brother 51 James makes his National Banger debut just days after his 16th birthday and his current form in the Junior Bangers at TSR suggest he will be a good fit here and 156 Micky Boy continues the family theme with a rare outing to support his skippering son. Joining them is 303 Wayne Linsdell who is no stranger to this meeting and is another of RDC’s most underrated and always a strong bet for race wins as is reigning white and yellow grade series champion 517 Sid Cooper. Completing the squad is 317 Nick Wakeham and the always lively 841 Stu Carmen who might add some welcome fire power to the team.

The only other team to have enjoyed victory at this event in the past is the Suffolk team who won in 2011. They have a new captain this season in the shape of 898 Andy Battle who is not only one of RDC’s finest but also one of the most dedicated. His first Inter Counties team is an interesting one, filled with unsung and rising stars who could very easily come together to be a real surprise package. Brothers 317 Callum and 817 Kurt Jacobs have been two of the best new additions to the Mildenhall scene in 2014 while Team Wilkos 483 Mark Salisbury and 641 Kieran Cook always gives everything 100 per cent, as does 95 Anton Martin, and former team mate, now Shunter 768 Danny McSweeney is never far from the action. While reigning 2litre King of the Fens Champion 26 Dan Holmes is a solid bet for pints and hits.

This leaves two more teams who are yet to win this event. It might be a surprise that we can say this about the Essex team which is always strong on paper and the same can be said for what we know about them already. Once again 107 Michael Seex, another of RDC’s vastly underrated drivers, captains the team and with running mate 57 Dom Hall, one of RDC’s most improved in 2014, 370 John Cobbold, who won the British Championship for the second time in June and wit the confirmation of World Champion 331 Jason Jackson who would bet against them. The additions of former Heartbreaker champion 415 Corndog and the ever useful 912 the Entertainer, who is enjoying a fine season only boosts their chances and with Gladiator pairing 349 Noddy and 548 Magpie to conclude the side they might be the missing winning ingredient Essex has been looking for.

One of the biggest disappointments of last years event was the complete lack of a Shires team which led to 170 Darren Teal being swiftly identified as a new captain, a role he adopted with much enthusiasm and perhaps with a little extra team to help him he has formed another strong looking side which will not only add to the action levels of this years event but should also be in a position to challenge for the title. Teal himself is no stranger to the action side of things at Mildenhall but is also capable of winning races when needed while Incarace hot shot 129 Jon Brooks is developing into one of the sports leading names. 317 Bradley Cushion has enjoyed some fine action at West Row in the past as has 748 Graham Kiddle and 990 Glen Civil who are likely to be well involved while 117 Billy Taylor and 687 Mark Cross makes what could be his track debut and he could be useful.

V8 Hot Stox
Adding to the open wheeled stockcar element of the racing will be the V8 Hotstox who return to Mildenhall for the first time in over 25 years as part of their 30th anniversary season celebrations and they look to do so in some style with an all important World Championship qualifying round which is kindly sponsored by local fan Graham Read this evening.

The formula was born in 1984, created as a cheaper alternative to BriSCA F1 Stockcars and while the formula has evolved greatly in the last 30 years it’s initial design purpose remains the same as this is still a cheaper alternative that BriSCA F1 Stockcars offering both a stepping stone for those looking to move into the big league as well as a fine formula for those who enjoy it and the advantages it brings.

As part of their 30th anniversary season, the formula was eager to compete at as many tracks which have seen Hotstox action in the past which included Mildenhall and we are delighted to not only welcome the formula back but to also do so at what promises to be one of our biggest stockcar events of the season and we are confident that the formula will not disappoint.

Certainly all the makings are in the boiling pot and as well as being something of a special occasion many are of the belief that the formula will be an excellent fit to the unique Mildenhall raceway.

Those who remember the formula’s previous outings at the stadium report they produced some spectacular racing and there is certainly no reason why it won’t again and with an entry of around 20 cars expected their promises to be some lively and competitive racing and no doubt several will lap up simply the sounds of these Rover V8 powered stockcars barking around the shale.

Despite the huge length in time since the V8s last appeared at Mildenhall there are two drivers expected in action who have raced here in the past. First is shale ace 575 Darren Cottrill who is a previous Mildenhall BriSCA F2 Stockcar final winner and also 335 Bryan Andrews who quite incredibly was a part of the formula back at the start and raced in the Hotstox the last time they visited Mildenhall.
433 Steve Lilley is another with Mildenhall experience from his time in the BriSCA F2 Stockcars and he has recently moved up to the red grade and enjoyed a fine showing at Coventry from the grade earlier this month and he will be eager to continue this form here.

These three will hope this degree of track experience may give them an edge over the competition but the truth is there is plenty of it. National Points Champion and newly crowned British Champion 131 Kevin Sutchbury is locked in a titanic battle with young gun 175 Karl Hawkins over this year’s points title which will no doubt rage on here while British Championship runner up 12 Michael Scriven will be out for some degree of retribution after coming up a little short in the excellent scrap for the major title.

Others to watch for include leading lady racers 211 Pheobe Wainman and 26 Hayley Williams who already have their share of race wins this season while the nature of the raceway may benefit the lower graded drivers in which case the likes of 324 Shaun Bowman, 478 Shane Geary, 282 Darren Summers, 222 Guy Jolly, 328 Michael Boswell and 450 Sam Mee will all be contenders.
