2Litre Bangers, Reliant Robins British Championship and Saloon Stockcars

The final 2Litre banger bash of the season at Mildenhall attracted another triple figure turn out on September 30 with just shy of 110 cars in the pits including loads of visitors from a wide spread of promotions including TSR, Spedeworth, PRI, Incarace, Autospeed, Startrax and Henham. Car wise it was the usual FWD dominance with interest provided by a used Capri for 42 Steve Prince, fresh Cortinas for 166 Ash Shepherd and 348 Sonny Sherwood, a Marina coupe for 503 Vic Manning, Mercedes 190 for 487 Keith Silley and topping the bill a Cressida estate for 357 Neil Carter.

34 cars for the opener with Manning attacking 303 Wayne Linsdale from the off as 391 Wayne Shinn (Primera) opened his account by burying the Prairie of 171 Darren Stanion before 560 Andy Potts stufed 539 Danny Allen (Cavalier). 391 Ol Matey continued by burying 148 Ian Redden as 788 Dan Burton hit 511 Helen Licquorice (Cavalier) on the nose. 483 Dave Hazledean then thundered in Manning but was nailed in turn by 551 Ant White (Cavalier) with Old Matey completing the Aftermath and Rude Boy train. This triggered a pit bend pile-up in which 158 Shane Davies buried Allen before 156 Micky Maskall (Primera) hammered 710 Roy Cornell only to take one from the lively Ol Matey as Cornell was punded by White and 400 Kevin Shinn. Ol Matey again stuck it to 156 Mickey Boy with a T-bone before he stuffed 8 Dale Woolnough (Cavalier) only to take similar punishment from Potts as 400 Shinny took a rare win and celebrated with a cracking follow-in on Woolnough. 14 Colin Lacey (Cavalier) and 22 Dave Vincent were the placemen.

A similar sized field for heat two with Incarace guest 222 Matt Logan failing to start and getting whacked by 547 Jon Reynolds' Cavalier as 414 Daniel Rear (Sierra estate) was pounded by 557 Adrian Jaggard (Orion) and 64 Barry Lee (Primera) . 572 Ricky Clark hit 107 Michael Seex (Mk3 Granada) on the nose witrh 807 Chris Murfin (Carina) hitting the former in turn setting the luckless Clark up for a cracking T-bone from 308 Del Bowen. Incarace's 4 Chris Cash nailed the latter and was done in turn by 877 Adam Perrin. 332 Matt Roberts assaulted the luckless Rear as 712 Andy Westgate gave 557 Stalky a hard hit and 137 Lee Turner (Cavalier) met 209 Ben Hayward on the nose. 312 Tom Reynolds then planted 465 Andy Scarlett into the stricken 712 Bulldog. Following a near blackout when promoter Dave Coventry mistakenly switched the floodlights off for a split second the race was in face declared a couple of laps from home when 565 Mark Carter rolled on the home straight handing victory to 541 Scott Rayner (Cavalier) from 431 Shaun Abra and 35 Pete Lewis.

A larger field of 38 for the last heat with Turner stuffing 514 Matt Cheeseman (Cavalier) from the off as 516 Carl Gould zeroed in on 13 Nigel Burchan. 634 Chris Peacock then buried 551 Stu Franklin (Cavalier) as 6 Daniel Holmes (Galant) buried 13 Andy Ireson. 21 Jason Colbert (Mk3 Granada) was then mauled by 730 Dean Mayes (Cavalier) and 76 Terry Mansfield as Franklin went underneath Cheeseman and got shoved further under when Mansfield blasted him. 792 John Warby scored on 715 Mick Prince and Holmes blasted 619 Karl Turnbull (Mk3 Granada). 307 Jon Joe Cunningham (Sierra estate) turned round to ram Shepherd and then Franklin as 133 Karl Day stuffed 17 Mark Anderson (Primera estate). 69 Matt Sleigh (Escort) turned round to T-bone 730 Deano but the Spedeworth young gun soon delivered a big revenge hit before 247 Lee Clarke (Cavalier) also weighed in as 27 Steve McMillan hammered Ireson. 530 Dean Mayes won from 578 Ben Rogers in a Cvalier 1-2 with 364 Sean Winchester third.

Nearly 40 repaired for the consolation with Hazledean stuffing Walker as 64 Barry the Bull T-boned Allen and 792 Bravo met 636 Andy Benton (Cavalier) on the nose. Cash then followed in 664 Ryan Sudcliffe (Sapphire) as Allen took a head-on from 717 Darren Pindar and 173 Ray Sharrod (Sierra) scored on Seex which triggered a massive top bend pile-up in which a fire sparked up bringing the reds out. A depleted field for the restart with Linsdale going for the Mad Mob with hits on McMillan and Bravo as Hazledean buried Licquorice. Bravo hit back at Linsdale with 191 Shaun McMillan also blasting the latter only to come under fire from 807 Smurf in turn before Hazledean again put away Licquorice. 363 Brian Jarvis took the flag ahead of 665 Stu and 465 Andy Scarlett.

For a change the final was well subscribed with 34 cars, Potts setting the ball rolling with a hit on Colbert as Jarvis stuffed 472 Matt Cooke. Rogers then put Rayner away with Shinny then thundering Perrin into the back of the stricken Burton. The luckless Rayner was stuffed by 133 Karly as 129 Dan Chaplin put away 761 Nat Cohn (Primera estate). 88 Ash Burton (Primera) attacked Rogers setting the latter up for a head-on from 312 Turbo which fired Rogers up to hit 504 Ben Hamilton in the same way. Ash Burton held on for the win and celebrated by stuffing Hazledean although this left him open to a shot from Turbo. Abra and Vincent were the placemen.

A respectable field of 28 returned for the final event but as ever a few sat out of the Accumulator which started well as 247 Bro thundered 562 Gavin Barnes' Sierra estate into the wall before 460 Lewis Barber hammered both Steve and Mick Prince before the PRI pilot picked up Winchester and ran him in with a late assist from 361 Chris Walden. Winchester managed to hold his attackers up and 14 Babyface blasted 361 Wally with Barber then nailing Babyface a lap later before he was T-boned by Bro. 472 Matty won from the consistent Abra and Vincent and we went into the demo. Things started in style as Abra met Allen in a crunching head-on, the former then blowing the Rude Boy up with Pindar also weighing in on Allen only to take one from Barber. Mick Prince then blasted the latter triggering a nice wrecking train as Babyface, then Cohn all weighed in. Steve Prince took head-ons from both Barber and Abra with Winchester then evening the score on Barber with a hard hit on opposite. Winchester than attacked Mick Prince as did Sudcliffe with Abra doing the former in turn only to then come under from Cohn and 169 Len Brinkley. Holmes was then destroyed by Winchester and 35 Pete Lewis as 169 Lenny Boy nailed Cohn. Shinny then picked up Lenny Boy and buried him into 562 Gavo before the Aftermath man met Pete Lewis on the nose. The night ended with a bang as Winchester and Shinny had a hard head-on with Abra arriving on cue to blow the latter up and take the win ending a quality DD.

The 2006 Reliant Robin British Championship raised a superb field of 29 cars, so many that the format had to be adjusted with two half car qualifying heats opening the programme although neither were that lively.

552 Dave Hayes was the first to tumble in heat one as 275 Phil Rowbottom had 433 Andy Parker and 554 Chalky Douglas out as 291 Dean Haddon rolled 576 Colin Aldred. 195 Pete Nelson then spun Rowbottom for the win and a front row start in the championship with 326 Shane Lynn and 857 Dan Hill next. 553 Daniel Douglas delivered the final action by attacking Haddon.

The second heat passed without a single rollover as the rapid 158 Shane Davies was spun by 175 Karl Corsby and 66 Steve Willis fenced 68 Andy Loakes. The smart 691 Paul Snape had Corsby out and 285 Sean Dyer did the same to 66 Pork Pie while 96 Ian Robins attacked 512 Chris Barnett. 536 Ryan Cunningham motored to the win from the recovered Davies with 691 Snapper third.

Just one missing for the title race with Davies and Nelson leading the charge until the latter spun from contention. Hill was the first to roll as 123 Alex Waddington nearly went over. Haddon fell onto his side as 38 Gary Palmer attacked 69 John Cope and 853 Steve Donnovan went over as. Hill then sent Haddon into a double roll before Palmer fenced Loakes and Donnovan went over again. The yellows then came out for an inverted 69 Copey on the back straight and the race resumed with Corsby attacking Pork Pie as Davies fenced 433 Lance. 536 Capt Crash then rolled out of second before 576 Porkey cost Snapper a decent place by leaning him in on the final bend. Davies meanwhile charged to the title from the recovered Nelson and 16 Ray Layton.

21 returned for the Allcomers with Robins rolling early on as Hayes sent 215 Michael Croxon into a one a quarter roll. 399 Darren Atkins then went over twice to bring the yellows out with some big crashes on the restart as Hill and Haddon rolled before Dyer launched Davies into a monster triple roll which saw him go over as well. Corsby then fell onto his side as Nelson won from Palmer and Daniel Douglas, Atkins rolling himself to end the entertainment from the 3-wheelers.

A strong field of 29 Saloon Stockcars gathered for the penultimate round of their track championship including 499 Dave Aldous on his first appearance at the track since winning the World title.

Heat one began with a family feud as 311 Steve Newman spun brother 912 Andi causing 149 Jamie Sampson to hit the latter head-on as 2 Paul Tuppen and 219 Clive Grief struck the inner wall at the end of the home straight very hard. 86 Simon Royal made the early running as 511 Craig Barnett had 492 Dave Hawes out. Royal survived an attack from 317 Dwayne Powell to maintain his lead as 569 James Radcliffe spun Andi Newman and 27 Roy Fuller also went out. Steve Newman disposed of both Aldous and Tuppen before Royal's lead ended with a spin on lap five promoting Sampson to the top spot. 150 Andy Parrin had 167 Richard Cosbey around and 369 Andy Santry fenced Powell while Radcliffe removed Andi Newman. The back marking Fuller then spun Sampson which triggered a series of lead changes as Radcliffe took over before 428 Lee Sampson moved past only to be spun by Radcliffe who then lost the top spot to Barnett before Parrin dumped Radcliff out of contention. Powell and Jamie Sampson joined forces to stuff 220 John Englestone with Steve Newman ending the action by having Lee Sampson out. Barnett motored to the win with 490 Ian Jarman and Santry the placemen.

Down to 23 for the second heat which started with 419 Luke Grief spinning 305 Neil Parker and Jamie Sampson removing Steve Newman as up front 111 Darryl Goodard hooked out 223 Michael Garfoot to briefly take the lead before Royal took up the running. 420 Ivan Street spun 156 Darren Goudy as 403 Ashley Foulsham brought about his own downfall as he spun 417 Fred Powell who collected Lee Sampson sending the latter into Foulsham while Barnett and 562 Trevor Gray clattered into Lee Sampson. Luke Grief spun Cosbey to take seventh as Royal came under attack from Gray and Jarman took up the running. Lee Sampson spun Cosbey and Goudy removed Hawes before Goudy also scalped Jarman gifting Aldous the lead. The Sampson and Newman battle continued as Steve Newman spun Jamie Sampson while Fuller had Barnett out in the fight for second, the latter eventually crossing the line in reverse for tenth after several front runners crashed out in a back straight melee in the final laps which ultimately saw Aldous win comfortably from Parker and a recovered Jarman. The race ended with a bang as Steve Newman ran in Jamie Sampson only to get buried in turn by Parker.

The final also raised 23 starters with Gray spinning Fred Powell only to be taken out in turn by Street which caused Clive Grief to hit Gray on the nose with Santry also crashing in too as Fuller spun early on. Dwayne Powell and Royal found the wall while battling for second as Jamie Sampson passed Goodard for the lead, Goudy again put his bumper to good use spinning Santry as Cosbey removed 377 Mick Oslar and Fuller hooked out Luke Grief. Clive Grief then spun Hawes as Foulsham came in for a rough ride, first fired in by Barnett and then spun by Goudy as Jamie Sampson motored to the win ahead of Street and Barnett. Dwayne Powell was rewarded for his efforts with the Roundwheel Racewear triers award.

A most entertaining night of action with all three formulas providing some good racing. The bangers were lively all night without ever being epic with the demo delivering the best action, after two quiet heats the Reliant Robins put on a cracking title race and Allcomers and the Saloon Stockcars impressed with some superb action in their heats while the final was quieter.
