2Litre Bangers and BriSCA F2 Stockcars

2Litre Banger report by Neil Fox

A decent 91 cars for the first 2litre banger domestic of the year at Mildenhall which was pretty respectable with some regulars in Scotland for the World Cup and others preparing for the second leg of the head to head with PRI next weekend. A few motors of interest with 303 Wayne Linsdale in a RWD Bluebird, 198 Wildcat having a Chevette and 259 with a Mk1 Cavalier, 285 Sean Dyer brought back a Mk5 Cortina with 237 Gary Nash doing likewise with an Estate, we had fresh examples for 819 Nathan Shuker and 723 plus a Mk4 saloon from 536. Further RWD interest came in the shape of a used Capri from 161 Flash and fresh ones from 326 Shane Lynn, 124 Johnny Rookard, 160 Perry Willings and 898 Andy Battle with the latter two being particularly nicely turned out, while the top motor was the Cressida from 520 The Undertaker.

The first of the three heats brought 32 cars onto the track, 19 Joe Mullarkey (Bluebird) walling 8 Dale Woolnough (Mazda 626) and 602 Shaun Cooper (Bluebird) doing likewise to 75 (Astra) with brother 603 Jon Cooper (Carina) also doing 75 over the back wheel, the luckless 75 taking further punishment with a head on from 170 Darren Teal (Bluebird) and a shot from 701 Kevin Cooper, the latter done in turn by 819 Nathan Shuker (Mk5 Estate) before 19 Joe Mullarkey T-boned 75 and was done by 326 Shane Lynn (Capri). 361 Wally Walden buried Undertaker's Cressida as 603 Cooper treated Lynn to a stiff T-bone which put the doors well over. 511 Helen Liquorice hit the Cressida as 58 Danny Day (Bluebird) ran in 587 Humps' Cavalier nearby, Humps also taking one from 400 Shinny (Bluebird) before 602 Cooper planted 425 Martin Stopher (Cavalier) into Humps. 730 Deano took his Cavalier to the win ahead of the similar and very smart motor of 307 Jon Joe Cunningham, Shinny attacking 262 The Verger's Sunny on the run down lap and coming under fire from 503 Oddjob's Primera as a result to end a lively race.

Another 32 cars for heat two, 249 Frosty (Primera) attacking 38 Tommy Gun (Bluebird) from the off while 431 Shaun Abra (Bluebird) hooked out 303 Wayne Linsdale's earlier example as 681 Badger took a pounding from the Gigglers with 536 having his Cortina destroyed too. The lively Frosty put 198 Wildcat's Chevette away and also removed 303 Linsdale with the latter also coming under fire from Abra as 885 (Sunny) walled 898 Andy Battle's smart Capri. The race was brought to an early end with a fire in the 681 Badger Cavalier, 472 Matt Cooke the man in front at the time.

A slightly smaller grid of 26 for heat three, 415 Scott Cornish (Cavalier) running in 129 (Bluebird) as 348 Mushy (Mondeo) hooked out 215 Mike Croxon's Escort. 259 (Cavalier Mk1) impressed no-one by coming inside out at first 219 Rob Beavis (Bluebird) and then giving 197 Andy Ashman (Cavalier) a dodgy drivers side head on with 247 Bro (Bluebird) planting 336 Nigel White (Granada Mk3) into Beavis before he took a hit from Croxon. Bro also put 166 Ash Sheppard (Cavalier) away and took a shot from 585 Kevin Giles as 445 Mark Dorrill took his Bluebird to the win ahead of Mushy and 565 Mark Carter (Sunny)

31 for the Consolation with 443 Dave Harvey (Bluebird) removing 701 Kevin Cooper which allowed 19 Joe Mullarkey to meet the latter on the nose while Harvey also fired up the back of 285 Sean Dyer's Cortina. 235 Danny Rainer (Bluebird) walled 198 Wildcat with 587 Humps putting 511 Helen Liquorice away too before Dyer turned round to meet 215 Croxon on the nose with the on form Mullarkey hitting the Escort. 264 Boonie (Bluebird) also went into wrecking mode as he turned round for a head on with 587 Humps, a shot over the rear wheel to 138 Little Jay (Bluebird) and a T-bone to 160 Perry Willings' Capri with the latter also turning round for a revenge hit before Boonie got 235 Rainer with a head on and took a driver's side hit from 137 Lee Turner. 516 Carl Gould (Cavalier) took the flag ahead of 219 Rob Beavis and 161 Flash.

The Final saw 30 qualifiers out, 516 Gould walling 503 Oddjob and 141 (Passat Estate) with assistance from 15 Lee Weeks (Primera) while 219 Rob Beavis T-boned 37 Dave Lewis (Rover 214) before taking a large package from Shinny. 472 Matt Cooke raced to the flag with the closing 730 Deano expiring to allow 741 Parfitt into second and 307 Jon Joe Cunningham third, 431 Abra seeing the race out by planting 445 Dorrill into 124 Rookard's Capri.

A decent 34 for the Accumulator including 330 Roy Laybourn who'd been allowed out in his Mk2 Granny, with around 8 of the field waiting on the centre for the DD. 19 Mullarkey fired up the back of 723 (Cortina Estate) as did 585 Big Ears, while 788 Darren Gathercole (Bluebird) attacked 898 Andy Battle and 400 Shinny put 819 Nathan Shuker in before landing a shot on Mullarkey, 741 Captain D doing the Aftermath man in turn, Laybourn also going in and taking a hit from 361 Walden. 129 fired up the back of 303 Linsdale as 364 Sean Winchester won from 307 Cunningham and 525 Starmer and we went into the DD with 711 (Sierra Estate) hitting 237 Gary Nash (Cortina Estate) in an all-Ford encounter while 219 Beavis (who'd done well to get back out after the hit from Shinny) turned round to do 898 Battle, 160 Willings then hitting Beavis as 361 Walden did 506 Tony Fair, Battle doing Walden before he was done in turn by 82 Quinny. Starmer hit Beavis before meeting Willings in a big head on which finished the Capri and left Starmer as the last man running, at which point he took half a lap run up to deliver an atrocious and blatant driver's dooring to the stationary 93 Ady Chilvers (Riva) with the latter not surprisingly requiring assistance to exit his car and limping away clearly in some pain, hopefully his injuries are not too serious. Starmer was rightly disqualified and subsequently no winner was give to the demo.

A good domestic meeting with the first heat in particular having lots of action and the other races having their moments too.
