1800cc Bangers Suffolk Open Championship, Saloon Stockcars inc Triple Header Dash for Cash and BriSCA F2 Stockcars World of Shale QF

Day two of One Wild Weekend 2010 saw another massive turnout of National Bangers for the 1800cc Suffolk Open Championship which was also open to 2litre RWD cars. Owing to the cancelation of the Accumulator qualifier and DD the previous night, the first heat was announced as a RWD only affair and subsequently an impressive 40 of the near 110 cars on hand were fitting for this race. Also due to the cancellation the night before drivers who wished to finish their RWD car but had built a second car for the Sunday were allowed to use both cars and eight drivers accepted this invitation while a further 13 were on their second car of the weekend. The field was dominated by Bluebirds, Cavaliers/Vectras and Primeras (all cars are Bluebird unless stated otherwise) but there was plenty of variety to be found especially among the RWD stuff. 500 Bill Wenham and 925 Aaron Preece returned their Granada and Carlton limos, all three A60s still ran as did 382 Jack Foster Jnr’s Cressida. There was even a couple of fresh RWD motors, 95 Dave Ford in his Peugeot 504 estate which didn’t run the night before and 76 Terry Mansfield in a BMW 518. Elsewhere and 244 Colin Burnham had the pick of the FWD entry with RDC’s first Focus.

35 cars contested the all RWD first heat which started with a bang as 154 Tony Lawton (Oxford) attacked 401 Steve Hemmings’ Capri, 117 Karl Dack (Omega estate) moving in to bury and roll 154 Splitter which brought the reds straight out but not before 117 Kamikaze nailed 401 Psycho. The latter collected a dead car on the restart and he was duly wrecked by 384 John Golden (Oxford) as 349 Lee Saunders (Granada estate) hammered Kamikaze and 262 Kevin Lee (Mercedes C200) buried 164 Barry Sedgwick (Sapphire). 346 Scott Saunders (Mk5 Cortina) followed in 116 Nat Cohn (Carlton) a treat as 500 Wild Bill, who had failed to start was clobbered by the pack leading to another stoppage but not in time for 382 Chubby to abort his hit on 503 John Bran (Granada). A depleted field for the restart with 460 Lewis Barber (Mk4 Cortina) now attacking Bram as 7 Johnny Morris (Mk3 Cortina) set about 504 Rob Woolnough (Granada) with 262 Mr Merc trashing the former in turn. 62 Trevor Buckley (Steller) belted the spinning 212 Richard Marion (BMW 318) over the rear wheel as 384 Goldie turned round to punish Mr Merc with a series of hits. 212 Mario returned the favour on Buckley as Goldie now wrecked 507 Danny Brown (Mk3 Cortina) to seal the entertainer award. Meanwhile 349 Finbarr span the leading 837 Martin Wesby (Granada) and 617 Jack Overy (Granada estate) won from the recovered Wesby and Buckley, 53 Dave Palmer (Granada) and Finbarr the only other finishers.

30 cars for the second heat which also enjoyed a manic start. 912 Kieran Greenaway (Astra) buried 54 Martin Lawton (Omega) as 46 Karl Jones (Rover) was pummelled by 219 Rob Bets’ Primera and 604 Ross Cooper to trigger a pile-up by the start line. 602 Shaun Cooper blasted Bets in turn only to take one from 273 Kevin McClagish himself. The reds then flew for a shaken Jones and a complete restart was ordered which was also short lived. 130 Chris White (Rover) whacked 8 Dale Woolnough (Cavalier) over the rear wheel and was clobbered by 349 Michael Allard (Carina) allowing 208 Jimmy Randall (Cavalier) to nail the latter as 602 Mr Moody fenced 324 Mark Latham (Astra estate). 599 Nick Gray then flipped over 519 Lee Middleton (Primera) to again bring the reds out and another complete restart was ordered. Mr Moody wasted no time in laying into both Dale Woolnough and Latham as 244 Clumsy fenced 207 Billy Randall (Civic). 599 Muncher did the same to 352 Ben Mynott (Vectra) before Cooper attacked 208 the Finger who duly turned round and Allard was happy to meet him in a savage T-bone. Moody then weighed in with a hard hit in the passenger side of the Runner only to get a taste of his own medicine from 207 Blockhead. Latham meanwhile fenced Mynott only to come under fire from Cooper respectively with 273 Mad Mouse then burying the Aftermath man en route to winning from 130 Casper and 511 Helen Licquorice (Cavalier). Mr Moody was named the best entertainer this time.

A larger field of 40 for the last heat with 316 Sean Haller blasting 276 Wally Walden from the off in an all Primera affair as a pile-up quickly formed on the road bend. 378 Joy Roberts (Cavalier) buried 78 Lee Macey as Haller T-boned and buried the BMW of 849 Mick Lown. 539 Danny Allen (Capri) then blitzed Roberts at the end of the home straight while 928 Emmerson Prime took a hard hit from 801 Jack Foster. Kamikaze followed 717 David Long in a treat as 180 Mark Foster hammered Walden hard. Kamikaze impressed again by running 682 Paul Sparrow before 807 Chris Murfin piled 688 Steve Collins into Roberts’ wreck. The race turned quiet at half way until 180 Sparky picked up and followed in Kamikaze superbly while 119 Davey Cox (Cavalier) rode up the side of 79 James Knights’ Sunny. 382 Chubby then clobbered Haller and was duly nailed hard by 128 Andy Lack, 371 Jason Cobbold (Primera) ending things by following in 700 Charlie Barber (Sunny) hard. 405 Neil Cornish guided his immaculate Primera to the win from 998 Wayne Cotterill and 119 Cruncher with Sparky taking the entertainer award.

Just under 37 returned for the consolation and for the second day in a row it was a stunning affair. The now Primera mounted 384 Goldie started by running in 787 Mike Amoss’ BMW to trigger an immediate pile-up by the start line. 116 No Luck Nat (Cavalier) blasted the Team Black man with Mansfield then T-boning Goldie as Cooper and Mr Moody both stuck it to Chubby as did 128 Lacky. 519 Knuckles connected with a hit on 927 Justin Margetson before Sparky blasted Cooper and 101 Ian Norris (Cavalier) gave 78 Mad Mace a big hit. 86 Alec Savage (Granada) weighed in on 101 Bam Bam in turn as Mansfield mauled 79 Knighty. Mr Moody rammed Goldie on the nose only to take a hard hit from 313 John Cullingford (Sapphire) in turn as Lacky again hammered Chubby only to come under fire from the on opposite 182 Rob Hull (Cambridge). 97 Jim Madsham (Primera) gave Mansfield a good shot before 427 Dave Johnson buried Bets head-on into 80 Matt Nutley (Primera) while 862 Liam Reach blasted 97 Sunny Jim. Greenaway hammered Reach in turn as the Bluebird powered Overy destroyed 35 Pete Lewis’ Rover with a large T-bone. 58 Andrew Girling blasted Overy in turn as 801 Jack Foster turned round and laid into Lacky with a series of big hits. Sunny Jim now planted Mansfield into Sparky as Savage blasted Johnson and Overy scored on the game Cooper. Goldie also assaulted the battered Cooper as Knighty nailed 209 Ben Hayward (Cavalier) and 188 John Reeves weighed in on Johnson. Bam Bam turned round for a hit on Margetson while Reach and Mario enjoyed a head-on. Mr Moody now wrecked Knighty only to take one in turn from Overy as 67 Mark Whittaker (Granada) blasted Girling hard. No Luck Nat nailed Sunny Jim as Bam Bam hit the leading 209 Minge on the nose allowing Girling to stick it to the latter. 188 Victor gave 78 Mad Mace a fine show only to take one in turn from Cully with Overy completing the train. Mansfield then further trashed Victor as Girling landed hits on Lacky and Mr Moody only to feel the force of Sparrow. Minge then blasted the latter en route to taking the win from Savage and No Luck Nat. The race ended in style with a final train as Mansfield blasted 67 Sparky, Johnson and Mad Mace weighing in to conclude the wrecking. Cooper’s determined effort earned him the entertainer award.

28 cars for the title race which was as expected a much more subdued affair. Reach began by leaning in Cobbold as 807 Murf homed in on 273 Mad Mouse, Wesby powering into the former which in turn sent Mouse into the blocks. Overy tagged the spinning Buckley over the rear wheel with Murf also collecting the latter. Mynott span Licquorice into the fence as Clumsy stuffed Latham while Casper buried 998 Cotty. Cobbold continued to fence Clumsy and Mad Mace did the same to 200 Wayne Holton, Latham ending the action by burying 67 Sparky. The flag fell on Barber (Rover) but a subsequent video check confirmed 124 John Chaplin (Rover) was the true winner ahead of Murf and Barber.

28 again for the final event of the weekend, the Accumulator qualifier beginning with Lown burying Splitter as Topley was dumped into the infield blocks by 180 Sparky. Goldie used his A60 to stuff Licquorice as Murf turned round to stop Minge with a head-on, Goldie blasting the latter in turn as 303 Wayne Linsdale (Cavalier) hammered 15 Lee Weeks, Reach then nailing the latter head-on. Cotty attacked Splitter as No Luck Nat raced to the win from Foster and Cotty and we moved into the demo. 688 Steve Collins rejoined for the infield (for which he was instantly disqualified) and duly followed in Mad Mace as Sparrow hit Sedgwick on opposite as did Goldie on 328 Daniel Latham (Sierra estate). Mad Mace battled back to hit Goldie before 67 Sparky turned round to deliver a big hit on Mark Latham which he followed up with a T-bone. Goldie now blasted Lown after the latter had hit Sparrow on the nose. Cobbold and Collins exchanged hits as Goldie blasted 415 Scott Cornish, who had sat tight despite failing to start the race and this got the latter running. Lown blasted Collins as 180 Sparky and Cobbold enjoyed a big head-on with Cornish T-boning the former in turn only to take one himself from Hull. Sparky again stuck it to Cobbold as Sparrow and Goldie enjoyed a head-on. Sparrow then blasted Cobbold as 312 Tom Reynolds (Peugeot 309) got running and attacked Sparrow. At this point Sparrow and Cobbold were declared joint winners with Goldie taking another entertainer award.

Day two of the weekend saw a slightly smaller field of 40 Saloon Stockcars but this was still sufficient for split heats with 18 cars for the first heat which was a white and yellow grade affair. In a family affair 184 Marty Colliver span 698 Danny Colliver at the start leaving 389 Ryan Santry to set the pace. 19 Karl Stubbles removed 731 Barry Wade with 420 Ivan Street spinning the former which in turn buried Wade. 728 Kris Woods took a big lunge at 190 John Wagstaff before 912 Andi Newman had 22 Karl Petters around and Danny Colliver did the same to Street. Newman continued to spin 738 Gary Munns as 233 Rob Aldridge eased into the lead at the half way mark. Marty Colliver was up to second and duly removed Newman as Karl Petters span Wagstaff only to spin himself in process as up front Marty Colliver landed a perfect last bend hit on Aldridge to snatch the win, 417 Fred Powell taking third.

Heat two was for the yellow, blue and red grade and raised 29 cars. Powell had Newman out at the start as 570 Simon Venni punted Marty Colliver into the wall before 156 Darren Goudy span 428 Lee Sampson and he was struck by Parker. Wagstaff led the way as H18 Peter Zoontjens and 191 Shaun McMillan suffered spins. 311 Steve Newman landed a hit on 115 Scott Aldridge which fired the latter up to spin 402 Shaun Webster with 219 Luke Grief ramming the latter over the front wheel. Woods meanwhile climbed the back straight wall as Scott Aldridge was spun by Sampson. Steve Newman had Willie Skoyles Jnr out as Parker removed 2 Paul Tuppen before Shaun Webster burst into flames on the back straight to bring the reds out and with the race still on lap five a complete restart was ordered. This began with Sampson hitting Skoyles Jnr as 43 Karl Gilbert span Zoontjens, Scott Aldridge then fencing the latter duo which also claimed Steve Newman. Wagstaff again set the pace as Steve Newman recovered to spin 18 Jamie Clayton and Aldous removed Munns. Danny Colliver had the leading Wagstaff round to take over up front, the latter recovering to fence Marty Colliver as 401 Steve Webster removed 912 Andi Newman. 131 Timmy Barnes then span Aldous which in turn saw Steve Webster squeezed into the wall where he hit heavily in the driver’s door by Grief. The reds came out to assist the shaken Steven Webster while Grief was loaded for his actions, the race declared in favour of Danny Colliver from Woods and Powell.

23 for the final heat which was open to the white, blue and red grade with Steve Newman fencing Venni from the off leaving 964 Kenny Peters to make the running as McMillan fenced Barnes, the latter then coming fire from Goudy. 490 Ian Jarman, Rob Aldridge and 140 Joe Cole all found the wall, Rob Aldridge recovering only to be spun by Gilbert as 360 Carl Waterfield dumped Tuppen out. Sampson span 22 Karl Petters and Steve Newman took a big lunge at Parker while Wade attacked Zoontjens who rallied back to fence his attacker. Waterfield lunged at Steve Newman which span the latter as Clayton fenced 317 Dwayne Powell and Steve Newman recovered to spin McMillan. Clayton ended the action by fencing Wade as Peters held on for the win from Sampson and Gilbert.

Up to 28 for the all in final with Goudy leaning Parker into the fence at the start as Peters again made the running while Marty Colliver, McMillan and Wagstaff all suffered spins. Munns fenced Danny Colliver only to then be spun by Goudy. 13 Lee Petters had Fred Powell out as Peters continued to lead from Wade, Rob Aldridge, Woods and Andi Newman. Street and Jarman were the next to spin, the latter collected by Parker as Danny Colliver recovered to remove Sampson and Aldous had Steve Newman out. The spun Munns was hit by Parker as Barnes span both Zoontjens and Rob Aldridge which also claimed McMillan, Parker hitting the latter over the rear wheel as Peters was sent spinning by Goudy and with Andi Newman dropping off the pace, Woods inherited the lead from Wade, Skoyles Jnr and Waterfield. The leader came under fire from Zoontjens which allowed Wade to take over before Gilbert crashed into the infield blocks. Waterfield marched his way to second as the recovered Gilbert was spun by Zoontjens and hit by Karl Petters. Waterfield now snatched the lead but as he spun Karl Petters he went wide and Skoyles Jnr took over. However Wade then battled back and slipped through, Skoyles Jnr blasting Waterfield on the last bend and Wade just stayed clear for an excellent win, Skoyles Jnr taking second and Woods third after Waterfield’s gearbox exploded on the final bend causing him to be hammered by the pack.

A little disappointingly the second annual triple header dash for cash saw just 11 cars return. The first segment beginning with Barnes fencing Street as Aldous buried Skoyles Jnr as Peters led from the front from Jarman, the latter then snatching the lead but Peters battled back by spinning him. This however handed Sampson the lead but he picked up a flat ending his chances and Woods took over. Gilbert hit Barnes but span himself as Barnes slipped past Woods and raced to the win and the first £60 ahead of Skoyles Jnr and Woods and they therefore comprised the front row of the second segment. This began with Lee Petters spinning Aldous only to be removed himself by Peters as Jarman span Gilbert. Skoyles Jnr and Barnes battled for the lead with a hit from the latter allowed Woods to take second before Jarman made ground and landed a perfectly placed last bend lunge on Barnes to snatch the line and the second £60 prize. Barnes and Skoyles Jnr followed him home and they again made up the front row for the final part. Gilbert fenced Lee Petters as Aldous removed Skoyles Jnr before the former span Barnes who was the hit by Woods. Jarman meanwhile broke away and took a trouble free run to the third chequered flag and added £80 to his winnings, Aldous and Street next home.

The final World of Shale qualifier for BriSCA F2 Stockcars attracted another bumper entry of cars with 69 in action including a handful who weren’t racing the previous night and it was good to report that all the long distance travellers from the night before were still in action.

22 for the opening heat and an early tangle with 335 Danny Cassar and 623 Rob Dobie as 498 Derek Cayzer made the running. 52 Pete Robertson landed a hit on 345 Gary Taylor which caused the latter to be hit by 515 Alan Veall and 431 Andy Gibbs as the spinning Cassar was hit by 597 Barry Clow. 606 Andy Palmer was making fine progress and landed a big hit on 917 Nigel Wiles to take second as H24 Willie Peeters removed 68 Dave Brennan only to suffer a similar fate at the hands of 519 Stephen Lawrence. 379 Stu Cayzer tangled with Wiles as a wheel came off Peeters car to bring the race to an early end in favour of Derek Cayzer ahead of Palmer and Clow.

22 again for heat two with 319 Gordon Ferguson clobbering the spun 650 Gary Stirk at the start as 588 Matt Pettit enjoyed an early lead while 145 Graham Mole removed 645 James Waters. 631 Ron Ferguson collected the spun 291 Craig Tomblin and 905 Rob Mitchell had 81 Mark Clayton around. 150 Mark Thoms did the same to H259 Ben Hawinkels as 742 Nick Rogers eased into the top spot and duly had Hawinkels around, the latter collected by Rogers as 369 Ben Atkinson connected on H666 Rutgar Valak spinning him. The latter was then collected by 496 Anthony Dakin as Rogers raced to the win from the closing 744 Tom Smart and Mitchell.

A slightly bigger field of 24 for the final heat with early spins for 611 Jason Horner and 607 Paul Barrett, the latter being clobbered by 366 Mick Kemp as 728 Carl Pilkinton enjoyed an early lead. 62 Trevor Buckley landed a hit on 274 Trevor Bonnett as 133 Jeff Byron span IOM164 Dougie Kinrade which also claimed Kemp before H30 Toon Schut span 401 Barry Goldin. Buckley moved into the lead as 354 Lewis Byron had 433 Steve Lilley out and he was collected by 548 Martin Lowe and Kemp. Buckley lost time with a half spin but thanks to his nearest rival 495 John Cayzer tangling with the back marking 401 Barry Goldin he held on for the win with 70 Brian Shadbolt third.

With sufficient time and cars, two consolations were run and 23 cars contested the first consolation. Hawinkels started by spinning Stu Cayzer as Waters and Lewis Byron suffered spins and Taylor was punted into the wall by Tomblin who then span alongside 515 Lee Veall and Brennan. 549 Andrew Bottomley set the pace as Hawinkels and 924 Martyn Pearson both span before the reds were shown for a lose wheel and a complete restart was ordered. Lawrence was an early spinner this time as Stu Cayzer removed Cassar and he was hit by Lewis Byron before H17 Arjen Hiddinga span Brennan and he was hit by 240 Richard Sager as up front Waters showed the way and he raced to the win from Kemp and Lawrence, Schut gamely battling on for fourth despite a blown wheel.

One less for the second consolation with Veall spinning at the start as Jeff Byron fenced Dobie. Wiles set the pace as 609 Brandon Davies tangled with Lilley and Valak fenced Pilkinton. Gordon Ferguson rode up the side of Pettit in style leaving him perched on top of him with the former then struck by Lilley which brought the reds out but this time sufficient laps had been completed for a lap sheet order restart to be ordered. Simpson soon overhauled Gordon Ferguson for the lead and duly motored to the win, H24 Willie Peeters surviving a collision with Pilkinton for second and Ron Ferguson third.

29 qualifiers made it back for the final which was another corker. Derek Cayzer set the pace as 977 Dave Massey span Kemp and Shadbolt also went round. Waters and 662 Steve Wycherly went round and were hit by H646 Rene de Groot as Derek Cayzer continued to lead from 925 Paul Wilson, John Cayzer and Robertson. Ron Ferguson also span as Clayton, H124 Wim Peeters and Kemp all crashed out in a heap. Robertson now stormed to the front with Derek Cayzer and Legg the next in contention as Clow and Wilson suffered spins. Legg came under fire from Wim Peeters who span himself in process as Buckley went round and was hit by 377 Daz Shaw. Atkinson ran into the stricken Wim Peeters as Kemp had 702 Allan Cooper out. Legg span Derek Cayzer for second the latter then rolling on the exit of turn two to bring the reds out on lap nine and therefore a lap sheet order restart was ordered. Robertson held on to lead at half way ahead of 798 Mark Sargent, Palmer and Legg as the spun H19 Jelle Kurtjens was hit by Clayton and Kemp suffered a spin. Cooper tangled with Lawrence as a big lunge by Ron Ferguson saw him spin and fence Legg. Palmer moved to second with Schut up to third and Smart fifth as Wim Peeters span Rob Mitchell and then had Wycherly out. Robertson led the field into the final five laps when Schut span Sargent for third, the final action seeing Wycherly remove Mitchell. Robertson motored to the win ahead of Palmer and Schut.

The Grand National also raised 29 starters and was again led away by Pettit as Rogers span Wycherly which resulted in a pile-up that claimed Clow, Shadbolt, 260 Anthony Winters and Valak. Winters recovered to spin Massey as Stu Cayzer landed a hit on Sager on his way to second. Simpson then spun Wilson as Mitchell and Massey also went out before Stu Cazyer eased passed Pettit for the lead. Legg span Clow and they crashed into the infield blocks as Smart had Sager out and then he removed Wim Peeters and later Sager although the latter move cost him time. Stu Cayzer raced to another win ahead of Palmer and John Cayzer.

Another action packed afternoon of racing with all three formulas once again in fine form throughout the day although the dusty conditions did spoil some of the races, the dust proving a difficult problem to curb at various points.
