1400cc Bangers and BriSCA F2 Stockcars World of Shale QF

The first 1400cc Banger domestic of 2007 at Mildenhall attracted a very strong, albeit mildly disappointing entry of 87 cars including a handful of visitors from PRI, TSR and Spedeworth. Precious little of note on the car front with the RWD interest limited to a pair of Volvo 340s, a Sierra, a used Cortina estate for 462 Lee Cambell and a fresh Riva for 93 Ady Chilvers.

Just over 40 cars for the opening heat with 644 Nathan Godfrey (Fiesta) stuffing the Sunny of 185 Ben Oliver early doors as 462 Chris Niro (Escort estate) buried the Astra of 160 Perry Willings with 183 Bobby Wilmer (Civic) then thundering 462 Leeky into 462 Panel Wacka's Escort head-on style. A big pile-up duly formed on the pit bend with 556 Zane Douglas (Sunny) nailing 516 Carl Gould (Corolla) only to take one in turn from 792 John Warby as 8 Dale Woolnough (Volvo 340) met the smart Astra of 2 Martin Brinkworth on the nose. A recovered Willings T-boned 717 Darren Pindar (Astra estate) as Godfrey blasted Woolnough. 710 Roy Cornell (Astra) then experienced a scary fire inside his car which would bring the reds out but not before 263 Nick Eason (Astra) belted the luckless Brinkworth on the nose and 564 Mark Cooper (Cavalier) hammered 394 Ian Rawlins' Fiesta. Cornell exited safely and the blaze was extinguished and depleted field assembled for the restart. Things began with 761 Darren Torka (Mazda 323) hitting 749 Stuart Gooderham (Astra estate) on the nose as the typically well turned out Astra estate of 898 Andy Battle was fenced by Eason. Wilmer then hammered the Metro mounted 326 Shane Lynn before 25 Andy Rookard (Corolla) zeroed in for a rated T-bone on Willings, the latter then blotting his copy book by ramming his attackers empty car. 565 Mark Carter (Volvo 340) fenced 185 Killer as Wilmer assaulted 324 Mark Latham (Cavalier) while 730 Dean Mayes raced to the win ahead of 792 Fat Head and 39 Steve Moore (Corolla).

A slightly bigger field gathered for heat two which started in frantic style as 209 Ben Hayward (Sunny estate) fenced 407 Ricky O'Neil (Sunny) leaving the latter prone to a package from 148 Ian Redden (Sunny) who copped it in turn from 12 Trevor Buckley (Rover 214) as a massive home straight blockage formed around them. 779 Paul Robinson (Sunny) met 788 Terry Norton (Golf) on the nose before 708 Jaime Nottingham (Sunny) buried 802 Gary Sheppard (Sunny) which saw the latter climb the home straight Armco and collect a post. 841 Phil Jennings (Sunny estate) then followed in the Maestro of 247 Martin Butts as 125 Lee Overy stuffed 902 Tony Lowther in an all sunny encounter and 425 Martin Stopher (Astra) powered up the back of 424 Daniel Marston (Sunny). 19 Joe Mullarkey (Sierra) meanwhile fenced 125 Hitler before the reds came out to rescued the rolled 371 John Cobbold (Astra estate) who had gone over at the end of the back straight. Again there wasn't much left for the restart with 307 Jon Joe Cunningham (Sunny) burying the Astra of 655 Lloyd Mullins as 145 Gary Bennett (Corolla) treated the spun 148 Shorty to a big T-bone. 415 Scott Cornish (Astra) stuffed 410 Daren Berry (Sunny) as 525 Wes Starmer (Concerto) did the same to 19 Dove Toe Joe who bounced back to put away 695 Mark Mason (Civic). 119 Davey Cox (Sunny) took the win ahead of 124 John Chaplin (Civic) and 348 Sonny Sherwood (Rover 214).

35 repaired in time for the consolation with 173 Roger Fuller (Fiesta) burying 547 Jon Reynolds' Golf from the off allowing Leeky to blast the former as 361 Chris Walden (Sunny) thundered in 796 George Chambers' Favourit hard and a pile-up quickly formed on the road bend. The lively 361 Wally now nailed 262 Jason Barnard (Sunny) as Nottingham delivered with hits to 516 Gouldy and Fuller before 58 Danny Day (Corolla) delivered a fine follow-in to 713 Alan Criddle on the top bend. The lively Leeky stuck it to Robinson only to fall foul of Willings with the latter then stuffing 564 Coatie, before Willings impressed again with a stiff pit bend follow-in to Nottingham. Lynn then came under fire from 37 Dave Lewis' Concerto and 175 Lee Ellis' Cavalier but the former kept his battered Metro running and even managed to have a pop back at Lewis. A top bend pile-up claimed the leading 741 Luke Parfitt (Sunny) and handed 62 Graham Rainbow (Sunny) the win, Lewis blasting Lynn again en route to second and Lowther third with Lynn deserving credit for finishing in eighth and last place.

24 of the 27 qualifiers returned for the final with 119 Cruncher turning 741 Capt D into the wall from the off as Barry fired into Lynn and ran him in on the top bend with the former then coming under fire from Ellis. Killer turned round to assault the leading Mullins as Shorty became the next to pummel Lynn with the latter then taking a head-on from Ellis. Killer continued on opposite and met 124 the Rook on the nose as 348 Mushy buried 511 Helen Licquorice (Astra) and Buckley did the same to the Rook. 131 Barry Wade (Corolla estate) piled into the game Lynn, with the latter then getting fired into the inner wall by 730 Mazie Jnr which finally silenced the Metro. Shorty hammered Licquorice after the two had butted heads a few laps early before 112 Tracy Goodall (Cavalier) collided heavily with Battle and a recovered Licquorice blasted Fat Head. Mazie Jnr romped to his second win of the night with Lewis and Mushy completing the podium spots.

24 returned for the last race off the night although a few chose to wait for the demo with the Accumulator starting in style as Lewis picked up 6 Martin Baxter (Fiesta) and followed him in superbly on the pit bend as 246 Alan butts (Astra) attacked 334 Stephen Court (Sunny) and Gouldy followed in Leeky a treat on the top bend. 334 Shorty Courty bounced back to run in Hayward with Gouldy then collecting the latter as Willings came under attack from both Rainbow and 551 Stuart Franklin (Astra estate). Lewis then stuffed 14 Colin Lacey (Sunny) with the latter then getting put away again a couple of laps later by Rainbow allowing Gouldy to give the latter a solid hit. Battle meanwhile held off Lewis to win with 303 Wayne Linsdale (Astra) third. Into the demo with Battle assaulting Nottingham from the word go as 171 Darren Stanion (Civic) met Shorty Courty on the nose allowing Stopher to weigh into the latter as Shorty was powered into the inner blocks full chat by a group of cars. 26 Dan Holmes (Cavalier) came inside out with a dirty hit on Lewis' drivers door which the latter swiftly avenged with a solid hit putting his attacker through the inner blocks. Fat Head nailed Robinson and Stopher attacked Nottingham before Stanion zeroed in on Lewis and 14 Babyface sparked up on the top bend. The event then turned quiet for a brief period before Cunningham attacked Stopher and Rawlins scored on O'Neil setting the latter up for a head-on from Ellis as Stopher and Stanion met in similar fashion. Another cagey period followed but the silence was broken in style as Battle met O'Neil on the nose with Rawlins blasting the latter only to take one in turn from Ellis who was hammered by Cunningham. The latter again stuck it to Ellis as Battle came under fire from Cunningham and O'Neil but kept his battered Astra running as Rawlins got going again to meet O'Neil in a hard head-on. Battle then found himself on the grass for the second time in the event which sadly earned him a black flag and gifted Cunningham the win but they had a head-on nonetheless to end the night's action.

The second track championship round of the year for BriSCA F2 Stockcars doubled up as a World of Shale qualifier and raised a fine entry of 49 cars including world champion 7 Gordon Moodie from Scotland and a well smart new car for 400 Dave Sharp.

26 cars for the first heat and an early spin for 356 Andy Corbet as 431 Andy Gibbs set the pace from 406 Simon Mawdsley and 434 Mark Gardiner while on the top bend 241 Adrian Davies wound up 597 Barry Clou with 433 Steve Lilley getting caught in the melee. Up front Gardiner and 284 Jody Griffin moved into second and third respectively, the latter then spinning Gardiner to grab second, the latter then getting flicked into the wall by 84 Jamie Baguley as he tried to recover. 379 Stuart Cayzer lost time as he tangled with 274 Trevor Bonnett, the former then sticking the bumper in on 788 Stephen Mallinson. At half way Gibbs still led from Griffin with 222 Pete Bott into third as 13 Andy Ford crashed out on the home straight and lost a wheel in the process bringing the reds out but not before 355 Dave Grindley went round and was collected by Gardiner. Gibbs led the restart away but it was shortlived as Bott came through but 606 Andy Palmer was charging hard racing into second and then taking the lead as they enterted the closing stages. However fortune was not on Palmer's side as he expired with little over a lap to go amd Bott picked up the lead and held off Griffin to win with Gibbs third. 219 Chris Mitchell and Cayzer got the better of Mawdsley in the closing laps to take fourth and fifth respectively while the run down lap saw Sharp spin and get collected by 70 Brian Shadbolt.

A slightly smaller field for heat two with an early spin for 599 Jonathan Lawrence as 925 Paul Wilson found the wall leaving 926 Neil Turner to lead the way ahead of 138 Gary Ford and 125 Craig Kendall. 798 Mark Sargent spun aside 662 Steve Wycherly before 482 Dale Seneschall and 366 Mick Kemp crashed out as up front Ford took over but Wilson quickly battled back into the top spot with 260 Anthony Winters moved into third. Further down the order Moodie slipped passed 559 Bert Finnikin to be the top red while Lawrence tangled with Wycherly and they crashed out on the pit bend with Waterfall spinning nearby. Turner continued to lead with Winters now second and Moodie moved up to third as Seneschall spun along with 543 Greg Godley. Moodie then stuck the bumper in on Winters spinning his man but holding himself up in the process as 376 Daz Seneschall fired into 377 Daz Shaw. Turner then spun and Finnikin burst into the top spot with 702 Allan Cooper and 380 Steve Cayzer next and that was how they stayed until flag fall despite Cooper having a late scare when he tangled with Ford.

25 made it back for the consolation with an early tangle between 9 John Baguley and 991 Shaun Howard with the latter then spinning along with Dale Seneschall as Corbet set the pace ahead of 956 Len Perkins and Clou before the latter took a hit from Bonnett although it was the latter who spun as a result. Perkins took over up front but it was soon Clou who raced through to take up the running with Grindley then moving up to second before he lost the spot to 495 John Cayzer. There were late spins for Bonnett and 623 Rob Dobie in the final few laps as the top spots remained unchanged with Clou winning from John Cayzer and Grindley.

All 28 qualifiers returned for an electric final with Mallinson's chances dashed straight away by a spin from Mitchell as Stuart Cazyer and Bamford also suffered early spins as Mawdsley set the early running ahead of Kendall and Turner with the latter soon moving into second as Cloud had Kemp out and Waterfall spun Shadbolt with the latter collected by 924 Nigel Pearson. Turner then moved into the top spot with Gibbs hot on his heels although the latter was forced wide on the pit bend by a back marking Shadbolt which saw him lose several places. Turner led into the second half with John and 380 Steve Cazyer next ahead of Sargent and Moodie with the latter soon racing up to fourth as Turner cruelly spun from the lead on the top bend blowing the race wide open. John Cazyer briefly took it up until Steve Cazyer moved through but the man on the move was Moodie who took it up soon after as the action exploded on the pit bend. Andy Ford rode up the side of 589 Colin Eardley and Bott, Wilson, Mawdsley and Wycherly among those who crashed out on the pit bend. The race continued as Cooper crashed into the wall by the start line with Moodie coming through to win ahead of Steve Cazyer and Shaw. A dramatic finish saw Andy Ford cross the line in sixth but no sooner had his crossed the line he flew up the side of 924 Nigel Pearson and crashed out on the pit bend with Eardley and Griffin also crashing out as well.

25 returned for the Grand National with John Cayzer having Pearson out from the off as Turner again made the early running ahead of Gary Ford and Dale Seneschall as Mitchell hit Waterfall and Shadbolt rode up the side of the luckless Mallinson. Grindley received a black flag when his rear wheel guard came loose, a fate which also befell Kendall as Griffin moved into second. Lawrence, Kendall and Clou all span from contention as Waterfall raced into third ahead of John Cayzer. Shaw then leapt to second with Mitchell on his heels. Turner meanwhile didn't put a wheel wrong this time as he romped to a faultless win ahead of Shaw and Stuart Cazyer.

A steady, if unspectacular domestic session with another lively night of banger action while the F2s far surpassed their opening Mildenhall meeting with a cracking session including a superb final.
