The 2009 staging of the 2Litre Banger Mildenhall team championship raised a fine field of 32 teams and 120 cars on November 8 although a black mark to the Ant Hill Mob, Common Crusher and Gypsy Crew B who failed to honour their places, the latter at least cancelling albeit only the previous night. As expected the Mondeo was the favoured car but there was a little RWD interest, GY285 Sean Dyer returning his Mk2 Triumph 2000 from the previous night at Lynn, CW170 Andy Shipp had a used Riva and CW101 Gary Deacon debuted a Mk5 Granada while BN277 Des Owen braved it in a Sapphire. Full marks to all the drivers who were on their second meeting of the weekend having competed at Lynn or Scunthorpe the previous night.

41 cars for the first heat with the track somewhat slippery after the weeks rainfall but certainly in a far better condition than many had expected. GY85 James Ellis made a beeline for nemesis BD67 Mark Whittaker and fenced him as GA382 Jack Foster Jnr ran in Aftermath guest AA460 Lewis Barber. KB199 Jason Dack (Cavalier) blasted the similar machine of GA86 Alec Savage as KM257 Jaimie Neve opened his account by following in LP139 Karl Parker (Cavalier) before the former blasted the luckless 67 Sparky. A pile-up quickly filled the pit bend as PB176 Ady Gibbs homed in for a T-bone on HG327 Jim Latham and HG324 Mark Latham (Cavalier) put away GA370 John Cobbold. FA381 Craig Upson meanwhile fenced MA320 Paul Seymour, the former then ramming 285 Mr Misery as AA604 Ross Cooper stepped things up by following in FA169 Len Brinkley hard before Barber did the same to Neve. GY41 Lee Horwood dumped PB519 Lee Middleton into the pit bend heap as the lively Cooper blasted Shipp and the impressive Neve delivered a fine roof bending shot on Deacon. Sparky turned round and blasted Mr Misery, wrecking the Trummy but it absorbed further punishment when AA415 Scott Cornish delivered a head-on and Sparky again piled in. Barber now powered into 176 Gibo with PB79 Ricky Twell evening the score by stuffing Barber into MA46 Wayne Pecker. CW518 Vic Bilky Jnr now blasted 169 Lenny Boy as Cornish continued the Math v Predator battle with a hit on 519 Knuckles against the flow, MA311 Lee Bradbury nailing the former in turn. 79 Twelly turned round and his Foster Jnr on the nose with Barber also turning round and blasting the former only to take a head-on from MA320 Paul Seymour with 311 Helm also weighed in. The latter went on for a stiff hit to Cooper as Twelly rallied back and hit Helm on the nose. 320 Smiler laid into the struggling Sparky as Cooper homed in for a head-on to Barber which sealed him the entertainer award. Meanwhile it was a dream start for the Bandits as BD22 Dave Vincent won from BD249 Matt Frost and BD37 Dave Lewis’ Rover.

Just under 40 cars for heat two and another frantic start as BB303 Wayne Linsdale piled BN192 Terry Nightingale head-on into YG465 Andy Scarlett (Bluebird) before FB128 Andy Shipp planted one on RT141 Andy Neal and BN291 Jay Giddings stuffed RT8 Dale Woolnough. Owen meanwhile piled TA54 Martin Lawton into 141 Mud Dog which also claimed YG119 Davey Cox (Bluebird). MB170 Darren Teal stuffed YG597 Andy Ashman before AB603 Jon Cooper homed in on YG436 Matt Arnold. A big push into the pit bend saw BB761 Nat Cohn stuff DV898 Andy Battle (Vectra), Giddings and LY760 Liam Baldwin in one go and allow 597 Redneck to blast Giddings. DV897 Matt Battle (Vectra) meanwhile blasted 761 No Luck Nat and buried his target to boot as a pile-up formed on the home straight. Baldwin then met 436 Arni in a solid head-on with AB183 Bobby Wilmer blasting the latter as DV188 John Reeves sent team mate Andy Battle crashing into Arni causing further problems for the Dover Boys when DV259 Dan Poole clobbered Battle. AB417 Dan Davey meanwhile belted 897 the Duck on the nose as a quiet few laps ended when Wilmer span BB437 Chris Bailey into the wall. FB122 James Woodley then ran in BN21 Jason Colbert prompting the latter to turn round and meet his attacker on the nose with Davey homing in for a cracking hit on Woodley which sealed him the entertainer award. 119 Cruncher meanwhile snatched the win when BB425 Martin Stopher (Cavalier) span on the last bend, the latter recovering for second and GB801 Jack Foster third. TA244 Colin Burnham piled Foster into Bailey just as the reds came out.

Heat three was the final heat of fresh cars and raised 37 cars and PA404 Luke Brinton fired the first shot when he buried ST648 Kyle Guyler as FT600 Tom Brown struck KA117 Karl Dack over the rear wheel before GC362 Liam Friel blew up KA62 Marc Cushion (Bluebird) with a rated hit, a second before AC391 Wayne Shinn blasted the luckless 117 Kamikaze equally hard. GC159 Darren Scarrow stuffed BW483 Danielle Friel and AC100 Callum White bashed Brown on the nose. PA89 Joe Barrett blasted the Math young gun in turn as FL61 Stu Holdsworth buried FT540 Scott Allen as 404 Spook fenced AC602 Shaun Cooper. GC247 Lee Clarke then singled out 648 the Dart for a massive T-bone as ST223 Brett Harrison buried FL362 Mat Godden as a pile-up formed, this time on the road bend. Allen turned round and hit Holdsworth as 247 Bro blasted 223 Bushy. The race then turned quiet with five to run but it picked up again when Kamikaze stopped ST196 Ben Harrison on the nose, PA192 Stu Warby meeting Bro in the same way. Kamikaze then backed MR10 Paul Whiteman into the wall as MR180 Mark Foster took the flag and then homed in for a meaty head-on with Kamikaze only to take a shot from KA57 Stu Cumming which came well after the reds and earned the latter a load up. Danielle Friel came second from Whiteman with just seven finishing and Bro taking the entertainer award.

Into the second round of hits and 44 cars for heat four which was a superb affair. The Duck began by burying Colbert while Ross Cooper did the same to KB620 Guy Whitehead and Cornish hammered 320 Smiler. Lewis meanwhile followed in Mark Latham hard before 425 Mr Vauxhall was blown up by a cracking hit from 176 Gibo. Cornish homed in for a head-on on the former with 79 Twelly then going in full chat on the former only to take an equally fierce hit from 603 the Younger Hitman. Wilmer stuffed GA371 Jason Cobbold and Bailey fenced CW205 Kieran Briddock before 518 Bilko Jnr followed in Lenny Boy well. The lively Gibo continued with a hard hit on FA388 Emmerson Fairweather (Cavalier) before planting himself in the boot of Lenny Boy. 244 Clumsy nailed 249 Frosty before Ellis picked up GA370 John Cobbold (Cavalier) and followed him superbly into Mr Vauxhall’s wreck. A split second later and Bailey planted Upson into Frosty as Cornish turned round and ploughed into the traffic, administering a massive T-boning to the spun Guywhite. Giddings then followed in Ellis and the Duck stuffed 205 Koonta before Bailey turned Smiler into the concrete. The Younger Hitman blasted Ellis as Giddings attacked Bailey only to roll himself in the process bringing the race to an early end. BB303 Wayne Linsdale took the win from Wilmer and Lewis while Gibo took the entertainer award.

40 cars for heat five with MR730 Dean Mayes taking a run up to blast Baldwin before Teal blasted the superbly turned out FT300 Darryl McMahon on the nose and a pile-up quickly broke out on the road bend. RT928 Emmerson Prime stuffed Bro and 100 Captain Cock stuffed FT539 Scott Allen into Teal allowing FL462 James Bruce (Primera estate) to T-bone the Flintstone. Godden meanwhile nailed 196 Ginner as FB237 Gary Nash buried FL128 Mark Atkins before Woodley blasted RT565 Mark Carter (Proton) and stuffed him into the blocks very hard at the end of the back straight. FB837 Pete Nash (Bluebird) buried Whiteman and 730 Deano followed in LP746 Harry Greer hard with Atkins picking up AC545 Kark Hough and following him into the latter. GC159 Darren Scarrow followed in BW84 Lizzy Crowden-Murfin a treat before he also attacked Woolnough. MR242 Ricky Korpiela stuffed 602 Mr Moody before 837 Mr Happy stuffed 462 Brucie. 362 Tilly attacked Redneck. 119 Cruncher took his second win from Bro and 154 Splitter, Scarrow the best entertainer.

The final set of heats saw 38 assemble for heat six with GB807 Chris Murfin on one from the word go and he buried PB779 Craig Allen head-on into Mark Latham before Vincent followed in Savage. Clumsy belted Koonta while 807 Murf continued with a shot on the Younger Hitman and GB682 Paul Sparrow buried HG326 Shane Lynn with Nightingale weighing in hard on the latter. Savage meanwhile was pounded by Knuckles and Upson. Colbert fired into the latter in turn as Nightingale came back to hit Knuckles on the nose with Jack Foster blasting the former in turn. Smiler took a big lunge at the Younger Hitman as Jim Latham whacked Nightingale and Foster Jnr continued the Team Black v Condom war with a head-on to MA203 Darren Nash, GB17 Kyle Overy then homing in on the latter. Again the race went quiet with five to run before picking up at the end when John Cobbold ran into the on opposite Lenny Boy as Koonta treated Murf to a head-on, firing Koonta up to blast the former with a T-bone on opposite as Jason Cobbold fired the Younger Hitman into the wall. Jim Latham took the win from Vincent and No Luck Nat, Murf the best entertainer.

A drop to 33 cars for the final heat but still no let up in the action. Captain Cock wasted no time in following in Nightingale from the off as 391 Ol Matey thundered in BW212 Richard Marion before Baldwin again came under fire from the Runners with 242 Korps and 180 Sparky dishing out big hits. Nightingale was hammered by shots from Brucie and Ol Matey as Atkins piled Mr Happy into Brucie which allowed Kamikaze to weigh in hard on the Incarace young gun. Ol Matey then stuffed TB755 Martin Crabb into Kamikaze and the next lap round Ol Matey administered a massive T-bone to 755 Crabby before Bro stuffed Mr Happy into some dead cars. Mr Moody continued the Aftermath rampage with a big hit on the Dart and the on form Ol Matey blasted Whiteman. 60 Fat Boy earned a load up when he came inside out to hit 730 Deano but Runner revenge was swift with 180 Sparky nailed him and Deano turned round for a massive pay back hit. Ol Matey now scored on Bro only to take one in turn from Atkins before the former enjoyed some head-ons with Holdsworth. Ol Matey then did a lap and blasted the latter with a further head-on but took one from 465 Nine Inch in turn as Bro took the win from Cruncher and Nine Inch, Ol Matey the best entertainer.

The Bandits and Young Guns headed the field into the final which boasted the top 12 teams and together they managed to raise 25 cars. Despite this being the quietest race of the day it still had some moments with the Younger Hitman firing the first shot with a head-on to the spun Murf. 17 the Little Chief hammered Crabby as Helm fenced No Luck Nat before 326 Ratty turned round and nailed LP107 Michael Seex. 320 Smiler tagged the former in turn allowing 107 Seexy to pound Ratty with several revenge hits. Foster ran in the Younger Hitman as Smiler took a big lunge at Bro but it was the Little Chief who chalked up the win from Davey and Nine Inch. The latter place combined with a fifth from Cruncher earned the Young Guns the title while an eighth for Lewis ensured the Bandits finished second. Sadly some confusion after the race saw Bits and Bobs declared third when in actual fact the big haul on the final had lifted Team Green B into the final podium spot.

With the meeting now at the five and a half hour mark a superb 29 returned for the demo and treated all those who waited until the end to a fitting finale. Kamikaze began by running in Nine Inch before the former piled Upson into McMahon with FB128 Andy Shipp blasting team mate Upson. Holdsworth enjoyed a head-on with Crabby as Bushy blasted Prime while Danny Allen turned round to meet Kamikaze on the nose. 545 Huffy blasted the Duck as Scott Rayner hammered TA54 Martin Lawton with Mr Happy blasting the former in turn. Brown gave 54 Splat a solid hit as the Little Chief delivered a head-on to the Duck and Bilko Jnr T-boned McMahon with John Cobbold doing the same to the former as Brown and the Little Chief went head to head. John Cobbold continued with shots on McMahon and Clumsy before Nine Inch treated Bilko Jnr to a T-bone. This then left Nine Inch open to a simply titanic, flat out hit from Mr Moody with the Little Chief blasting the Aftermath man in turn only to take one in turn from Brown. Clumsy and the Little Chief met on the nose with Foster Jnr punting the latter into the blocks as 128 Shippy rejoined from the infield, for which he was black flagged, and blasted the Little Chief. Jason Cobbold was also black flagged for being on the centre for too long but continued to mail Clumsy on the top bend as Foster Jnr and Shippy traded blows. Shippy then acknowledged the flag and withdrew to the centre leaving Jason Cobbold to meet both Foster Jnr and the Little Chief head-on, the event then stopped and a dead heat awarded between the latter pair while Mr Moody’s monster hit earned him the entertainer award.

The final round of the 2009 Ministox points race raised a fine field of 34 cars but the open meeting only attracted two visitors including 537 Curtis Tebbenham from PRI on his track debut while 333 Kyle Dobbs and 352 Connor Spall made their first appearances in some time.

Half car heats to start with 18 in the opener and Spall attacked 316 Sam Dace from the off which allowed 376 Stephen Hackett to leapfrog them both as 366 Matt Noughton suffered an early spin. 360 George Barber wound out Dace with 350 Thomas Parrin spinning Tebbenham into the latter as 327 Mick Maskall Jnr took a big lunge at Hackett in the battle for second. The leading 383 Shane Harvey then span Dobbs into the blocks heavily on the back straight while 304 Jo Parker also crashed into the infield concrete leaving the latter in trouble and bringing the red flags out with a complete restart ordered. The race resumed with Hackett attacking Spall while Dace did the same to 309 Ray Petty. Maskall Jnr removed Hackett before Barber span Harvey to take the lead with Dace clobbering the latter. Maskall Jnr then attacked Barber over the lead but this saw them both crash out and hand Petty the lead and he motored to his maiden Mildenhall win while a close finish behind saw 358 Jake Swan just beat 355 Sid Magewick for second with Hackett right behind.

A slightly smaller field for heat two with 303 Lewis Jefcoate putting the bumper in on 382 Tom Foster as 308 Alec Hannay made the early running only for the reds to again come out when 560 Andrew Milner span 392 Reid Murray which in turn turned 353 James Licquorice into the wall, leaving the latter shaken. Hannay led the restart with 367 Tom Keep quickly into third before he took a big lunge at 391 Jake Banwell which took them both to the fence as 302 Jordan Murray removed 390 Karl Morris. Banwell meanwhile tangled with 332 Sophie Bright which allowed 306 Daniel Parker to move up but there was no catching Hannay who took the win, Daniel Parker taking a fine second from the reds and Keep third.

All in for the third heat and 27 cars with Jefcoat spinning 323 Craig Latham from the off as Harvey again made the running only to be spun by Spall as Hannay attacked Keep. Spall now led with Banwell and Hackett in pursuit as Foster wound out 324 Georgie Lee and 320 Charly Streeton clobbered the spun Noughton. Swan was another to spin as Madgwick had Tebbenham out. Keep fired Jefcoat into the wall, the latter battling on only to be spun by Parrin as Spall raced to the flag ahead of Banwell and Hackett.

27 cars again for the final with Hackett setting the pace from Banwell and 357 Jordan Cumming as the luckless Jefcoat found himself in a spin again, this time thanks to 390 Karl Morris who then came under fire from Keep before Swan homed in on the latter and sent him into a spin. Banwell meanwhile lifted himself into the top spot as Cumming attacked Hackett. Petty was again going well and moved himself to fourth as the race hit half way with Banwell still leading, Petty now second and then Hackett, Cumming and 322 Thomas Fox. Daniel Parker span Magewick which saw the latter collected by Milner as Petty punted Banwell wide and grabbed the lead, the latter then spinning from contention as Fox shoved Hackett wide to grab second, the latter also suffering a late spin to drop out of the top 10 as Petty sealed his double from Fox and Swan.

A drop to 23 for the Allcomers with Hackett having Dobbs out at the start as Banwell set the pace with Dace soon passing Jefcoat for second, the latter then sent spinning by Keep as Spall put the bumper in on Hackett to take third. Jordan Murray removed the luckless Jefcoat as Spall span from third but he recovered to attack the now third placed Barber. This saw Petty move up to third as Jordan Murray again had Jefcoat around and Barber got Petty sideways in the race for third which allowed Banwell to pull away at the front. Dace span Spall which cost he former time as Petty evened the score on Barber, spinning the latter which in turn caused problems for Fox and Madgwick who whacked Spall and the fence respectively. Parrin moved in and span Madgwick and Hackett fenced Swan as Banwell kept his cool and took the win from Petty and Keep.

Heat one: 309 Ray Petty, 358, 355, 376, 322, 350, 352, 537, 360, 366
Heat two: 308 Alec Hannay, 306, 367, 391, 302, 560, 382, 320, 332, 312
Heat three: 352 Connor Spall, 391, 376, 360, 309, 350, 308, 560, 322, 306
Grand Final: Petty, 322, 358, 357, 308, 537,390, 302, 355, 391
Allcomers: 391 Jake Banwell, 309, 367, 316, 322, 306, 308, 350, 537, 355

A superb action packed meeting which was in no small part down to the most decent track conditions which surprised more than a few. Certainly the best 2litre team meeting to date and a much needed step in the right direction for this meeting following the awful conditions 12 months ago plus another fine outing for the Ministox, highlighted by their three excellent all in races.
